Hello Alan

Thanks for the info re the deck planking. It's very informative and means I can start shopping around looking for materials, which in some cases are hard to get in Oz. (I'm even having trouble sourcing burnishing/blackening fluid!)

Kind regards
JohnP

Hi John, hope you are able to find a supplier for the materials you are looking for....

Alan

Work continues with issue 94 but here is what I have decided to do with the chainwales... I have never been a lover of painting anything sapele colour and with the chainwales that is no different..... I started by cleaning up the edges and with a fine file and ensured I had a good fit to the hull... Cool Cool .. With care, I drilled 0.6mm holes in the edge of the piece, cut the heads off some pins and superglued them in place, wanting to ensure a secure fit to the hull.... When happy, decided to use some spare walnut strips I have left over from the hull planking and covered both sides of the chainwales, filing out the notches and drilling out the 2 holes... fine sanded when finished and gave the piece 2 coats of satin varnish.... Finally painted the two end edges with two coats of gold.... Cool Cool .. Am very pleased with how it has turned out so will get to work on the other two chainwales tomorrow and over the weekend.... Chainwale has not yet been glued in position, simply held there by the pins, will be glued later in the build...... Cool Cool .. Happy building all...

Regards

Alan

Finished layering the two remaining chainwale platforms with walnut, stained, varnished and finally fitted to the hull.... These are only held in place with the pins I inserted into the platform edges, intention is to glue them in place when I have the chainwales in place, I think it will make the process of fitting the chainwales easier....Cool Cool Happy building all.... Cool Cool

Hi Alan!
A good decision, I´m sure there are some wooden strips to be fixed at the outside of the platforms!

You are spot on Bernd, there are wooden strips to be fitted to the front edge yet and this was one of the reasons why I decided not to glue them in place yet but to fit the chainwales including the front strips... easier off the ship.... Cool Cool .. Thanks for looking in and commenting....
