Quick question .... Please Don' turn this into another arguement Lol.
On the official build I notice there is another section where there is no option for False guns. There are two area's where the entry ports are but what is the other section on the starboard(right) side which is 3 ribs and 2 deck big. Is this the optional opening.  On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Yup,thats it...& i'm so impressed  at the lack of detail I am going to buy the cross section or the gundeck model to put in the display case with the old girl,at least that way you get to see some proper detail  Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

Correct, its the optional Cutaway opening which spans two decks and will contain full gun kits and figs etc.

I think the cutout section is big enough for added detail, especially if you have a wood lathe and are able to turn some doweling for the supports described on the link below. http://forum.model-space...t.aspx?g=posts&t=977Ship Builds on the go

I still have'nt started the build yet so its interesting to see what other people are getting upto, As for the cross section, Thats what I intend to do just for the detail, (Its under the bench!) so at the moment I am undecided about the cutaway, anyway time will tell as and when I start the build !!! I've not yet seen any info on the make-up of the Cutaway section other than being aware it is to be a diorama section built outside of the model, and will be inserted into the vacant area being created. The lower deck is bereft of planking because this deck will not be visible from the outside once the hull planking is complete. The middle deck Entry Port area (both sides of the ship) is visible, which is why planking has been simulated in this area, drawn-on decking is common place in model ship kits, and because the entry port area is very small simulated decking should be no detrement to the build, but if you wish there is no reason why this area cannot be decked with actual planks, though its a pointless excercise to plank the entire middle deck because it won't be visible other than the entry port area.

Hi Tomick, Many thanks for you reply. I suppose my main concern was the deck bits visible on the open gun deck option. This has now been resolved with the diorama which seems to be a great idea. If the deck visible from the entry ports can be simulated realistically (I didn't know it was common practise)then I will give it a go before trying wood planking. Cheers, Jimmy Jimmy L.
