OCCRE ADLER LOCOMOTIVE:This locomotive, which was manufactured by Stephenson & Co. of Newcastle, was shipped in pieces from Newcastle to the Port of Rotterdam, from there it was transported up the Rhine to Cologne, and from Cologne, with a great deal of difficulty, it had then to be transported overland to Nuremberg.
When it finally reached its destination it was put back together at the workshops of Johann Wilhelm Spaeth. The coaches were built in wood by local workshops.
On 7th December 1835 it completed its maiden journey from Furth to Nuremberg, along a line measuring 6.04 km in length.
OPENING:1. All of this posting to forums is not something I have any expertise
with so I hope this proves of some value. I would like to insert text
between the pictures so that some further explanation can be given to
these. A bit more practice and research on my part needed I think.
INITIAL THOUGHTS:1. My kit arrived minus any English instructions. As my French and
Spanish is non-existent (and they were the only versions supplied) a
quick email to Occre and I was sent a PDF with the correct
instruction set.
2. My kit arrived with 2 of the cast parts broken but these should be
easy enough to repair.
3. Paint details (and this appears to be common across all of the Occre
kits I will review) just refer to a colour name (Green, Red, Brown).
No references to any of the known brands so for this part of the
build it’s going to be down to your own research to some degree to
get the right shades.
4. Another observation is that Occre show a parts guide with numbering
for all of the laser cut sheets but they fail to supply a breakdown
of the additional cast, wood and accessory parts that make up the
kit. I would recommend you follow the instructions and tick off each
part to ensure nothing is missing.
I did have 2 parts missing from the Rocket kit and a single part
from the Adler kit. Again resolved with a quick email to Occre
Customer support.
5. With most of these Occre kits you are able to request a laser etched
plaque with which to label you completed model. A very nice touch
especially as these are sent free of charge and free of any postage
charge so for that Occre are to be commended – a nice touch.
6. Painted wood is never an ideal medium to represent metal. As this kit
represents a whole host of metal parts in wood a good sanding sealer
will be needed to act as a base for the under coat and paint layers.
I intend to make use of a new product recently mentioned on this
forum in the form of Deluxe Sand n Seal. A water based product that
having tested on some scrap wood seems to perform a very good job.
SO WHAT DO YOU GET IN THE BOX?birdaj2 attached the following image(s):
