OCCRE ADLER PASSENGER COACHES 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class:

The Adler locomotive was built by Robert Stephenson & Co of Newcastle, England. The carriages that it pulled were built in wood by local workshops in Nuremberg. Each carriage, depending on its class, was built with characteristics and dimensions that were based on the type of public that it was designed for.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

1. Paint details (and this appears to be common across all of the Occre
kits I will review) just refer to a colour name (Green, Red, Brown).
No references to any of the known brands so for this part of the
build it’s going to be down to your own research to some degree to
get the right shades.

While at first this might not seem an issue were markings are
provided for the kit part of these is printed with the model base
colour. So get this wrong and the marking will stand out like a sore
thumb.

Have a look at the back of the coach instruction sheet and you can
see the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class (Klasse) markings to see what I am
getting at.

2. Another observation is that Occre show a parts guide with numbering
for all of the laser cut sheets but they fail to supply a breakdown
of the additional cast, wood and accessory parts that make up the
kit. I would recommend you follow the instructions and tick off each
part to ensure nothing is missing.

3. With most of these Occre kits you are able to request a laser
etched plaque with which to label you completed model. A very nice
touch especially as these are sent free of charge and free of any
postage charge so for that Occre are to be commended – a nice touch.

4. The box of castings and accessory parts that come with this kit weigh
in at 492 grams.

5. My main gripe with this kit is the metal cast square coach buffers.
Each and every one has been cast in a misaligned mould leaving some
major work to do. In addition the holes drilled for the Brass rod
buffer arms are way over size. Initial thoughts would be to remake
these using various thicknesses of wood or plastic strip. My
measurements are 9x9mm with the centre being 7x7 mm. should be simple
enough to replicate as it’s basically a 3 part “sandwich”.

6. Display base kits are available for the various locomotive kits
(Rocket and Adler) but Adler plus coaches will require the long base
kit. I will review these shortly.

SO WHAT DO YOU GET IN THE BOX?

Many thanks.

Not been contributing very much to the forum of late (work mostly - 12 hour days for 7 hours pay).

Had a long weekend this week (friday and Monday) for fence painting but as its raining thought I would add a few kit reviews instead.

I have a further 4 of the Occre tram kits I will write up hopefully very soon.

I am aiming at starting the Adler kit first and while I am hopeless at keeping diaries I will do my best to share my progress with this one. It looks an interesting kit with a few areas that will require some thought but having seen a Rocket build by one of the other forum members really keen to give this one ago.

Kind regards

Tony
