Hi George, if the hold up on your build is due to a shortage of pins have you not considered using something else... I have actually used small round headed map pins to hold planks in place in fact, these I used extensively for the 2nd planking layer as I didn't want to have pin holes on any of the 2nd layer planks..... Something for you to consider..... Regards Alan

Something for you to consider..... Regards Alan Hi Alan. I will purchase some of those map pins as the heads are big enough to enable pulling out with the pin fully pressed home. Not like the pins supplied which if pressed home are extremely hard to remove thus I've been bending them over to get a grip. Some of the problem might be over as my son came to the rescue with his Dremel Set that has a special 'any size drill bit will fit chuck' he purchased when needing for repairs re the helicopters he flies. We put in the smallest drill bit that was even too small for pins and it held firm and very straight. So here's hoping my future pin supplies will still have straight pins over. Thanks to Alan's help0 regarding using Map Pins I've been able to progress further with planking. Problem now is I've run out of Bamboo planks and the shorts from cut offs too short to use other than for wedges. These pics are where I am to date. I've gone ahead and filled in spaces at the stern.    Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Hi George Planking is coming on a treat and looking good, Its frustrating running out of wood but it gives you a time to reflect on what you have learned so far. I know it has been mentioned before but this first planking is for strength and coverage only so how it looks is of minimal importance the hard part is getting the second set of planks looking right and that's another challenge you will face but im sure you will do fine Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

G'day George Your planking is looking really good and is way ahead of mine. Well done mate. I've got the first 4 rows plus the first tapered plank row in as I've been fiddling around experimenting with deck planking on the second deck whilst waiting for the mini planer, which finally arrived this week. I have followed Alan Gandales' planking sequence and have used 3 different methods for the caulking - black (thick) paper, B pencil and 0.5mm black rigging twine. Must say, I couldn't get on with the paper as it is difficult to control. Pencil method looks a bit scrappy too so it seems I'll go with the twine method for the exposed decks as it doesn't look too bad. I'll post some pics in a few days. Regards JohnP

Thanks for compliments they are appreciated. Yes you will find the thumb plane an enormous help in tapering planks. I'm starting to get the hang of using it now.
