Hi everyone. I wanted to introduce myself to the USA forum I just recently saw a TV commercial for the HMS Victory and went to the website to take a look as I've always wanted to build a ship of this caliber. I've built store bought plastic models when I was younger and was never really satisfied. About ten years ago, I built a 1/10 scale RC car and. 1/8 scale monster truck. I loved the build, but it was complete in a couple weeks. Now that I'm older, I've been wanting to get into a hobby that was suited for me and one that would last longer than 2 weeks. So, when I went on the site I noticed that they also offer the Formula One McLaren. I changed my mind on the ship and bought the 12 month subscription for the McLaren. But being the kind of guy I am, I went back to the site and bought the 12 month subscription for the HMS Victory! I just couldn't let it go. Am I crazy? I have a pretty stressful sales job and I needed something to take my mind off of work, get my but off the couch and have a long lasting hobby. My only concern is did I bite off more than I can chew? My thought is that I could work on both and keep my mind clear of work when I'm home. Plus I have 5 weeks vacation to use and the wife is in school. So I have a lot of just me time. I'm mechanically inclined, but I've never taken on such a complex build. I'm not an expert especially in ship building, but the website says both models are suited for the beginner as well as the expert. Does anyone have any invite to these two builds or advice they could pass along? I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry for the long introduction. Hi Ponty Welcome to the world of model building , both of your choices will bring you many hours of enjoyment and a few frustrating ones along the way but at the end the satisfaction of knowing you did a job well done. Both models have Mr T's official builds and many members builds that will help you through any major or minor problems and of course there are the members just ask as were here to help. Lastly enjoy your builds its not a race go at your own pace and above all have fun doing it. Hi Ponty, This is a great forum you have just signed to there are plenty of builders both wood and plastic on here very willing to help you along if you get a bit stuck. I can only speak for myself but you will find that with both builds on the go your stress may go up and down but in a nice way and you will find that the time will drift away and before you know it you will have to cook dinner for the wife. Hope you enjoy your stay with this Forum as there are some very skilled builders here and don't forget to keep posting your build's. Regards Trev. Hi Ponty, I don't think you bit off more than you can chew, at all! The McLaren is phenomenal in the fit and finish. The screws are perhaps a bit tight, but see my build log for my solution. The really nice thing about the Victory is the instructions. It pout s a stunning model well within the reach of just about any modeller who is willing to proceed carefully, and with care. As others have mentioned, there is a wealth of info on this kit, and many, many build logs from which to draw info. Have a great time! Tired, Old, and Cranky!
