Hi Dave.BigGrin

That's a very intricate and involved model you're putting together and doing an absolutely fantastic job with it.Cool Love

I had to look at your pics a few times to get a full idea of just what is involved. Certainly lots of parts and fiddly with it. BigGrin

Will definitely look in again to see as you further progress.Cool Cool

Regards

George.

Sat in the garden today and got the compressor out, I finally have the hull sprayed up with soe other parts too.

I originally stuch the achor chain down to be paint kure grey as it is in a reference book I have but I am now wishing I hadn't. Its a bit late now to do anything about it so I am thinking of perhaps doing a black or steel dry brush on it, what are your thoughts on this? Confused

Im sure you can imagine how much paint is need on a hull this size. I made up a while pot 10ml pot of Tamiya Kure Grey with the addition of 5ml of Ultimate Airbrush Thinner.

I just kept going with the spraying and other parts until they had a nice coating (several light coats) and I ran out of paint.

I actually managed to work my way through 3 airbrushes Blink Due to the heat they get clogging up. I have a H&S Ultra 2-1 and 2 cheap chinease generic airbrushes, 1 with the side cub and one with the bottle that goes under the end of the airbrush, the latter being the one used for most of the hull due to its size.

As SWMBO is away visiting her sister, I had to stay at home as working 12 hour day shift tomorrow, I will make some food grab a beer and get to back to the modeling cave BigGrin Parts 1-3 of the GT-R arrived today Woot

Hello Dave

Love these Tamiya kits as you really start with a great base kit on which to work.

Your getting a good finish on your paintwork despite this aweful weather at the moment (guess who prefers the coolness of winter? Confused ).

Looking forward to seeing more if your build.

Happy modelling

Tony

Your really showing some expert skills with that photo etch.

It's not easy to work being so small but you have done a fantastic job and it will really add that little extra to your finished build.

Happy modelling

Thanks guys

It was tricky doing that bit Blink

A bit more to feast our eyes over, I have had to stop now as I am exhausted Blink You will notice I have one of the kit silver etch ladders in place of where one of the small 4mm ladders goes, this is because I broke that and the 2 spares Blushing

Short update as I have now finished the PE on the tower, a few more ladders and railings added. You will notice that 3 of the Tamiya's own etch ladders have had to be used due to breakages Cursing

This was possibly the most diificult part of the build to date, if you look closely at the brass ladders you will see that they have nice steps, each one has to be rotated 90 degrees individually after the ladder railing has been bent OhMyGod

Glad I can help with some ideas for yours BigGrin

I have been quite surprised with how well I ended doing the photo etch to be honest. I think it's just a case of residing yourself to the fact that you are going to drop it, pick it up, try to position it, drop it again and repeat numerous times, on you accept that this is going to happen it becomes quite enjoyable Cool

BigGrin Hi Dave
Your right about the etch gremlin causing problems like it pinging off into the ether never to be seen again or like me its found 6 months down the line sitting there where you looked several times.
To me etch gives a finer edge to the detail that can be added to a model and well worth the effort and sometimes the trauma of fitting the stuff. Keep up the good work

If you notice in my pictures of my work area in the post your workbench thread, I have towels around my cutting matt, many a times these have caught the PE and saved me scarbbling around on the garage floor, although some has dissappeared never to be seen again

BigGrin Hi Dave
I find this is invaluable for etch work as you can hold the pieces down as you trim them off the sprue ,this is the small version but they do do a larger one
