Hi! All,just joined and I,m sure I will have a lot of Questions. First I would like to say great work to all you guys building The HMS. I'm waiting for my first shipment, so my question to you, what tools do I need to get started, I have xacto knives, dremel tool, Do I need to get small files, and I know I will need sandpaper. I have never done any wooden models. Someone mentioned using a jig to keep parts straight,is this something you can make or do you have to buy it?

Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Al

In that case then you certainly will enjoy this one - a little bit of advice though, read the official build guide for each issue you attempt -

http://forum.model-space....aspx?g=topics&f=17 as there are a couple of corrections that were made after print.

Welcome to the forum!
As everyone stated, if you have a question, just ask. Everyone has been very generous and supportive on my build.
Also, take plenty of pics! It's the best way to get feedback, especially if your having a problem on a section of your build

Hi all, Just recd. pack 1 of HMS Victory, all excited opened up and found no glue, seem glue was taken out. Called De Agostini in Tn USA and was told might be in next shipment. Asked him how can I wait 2 months to start. He wasn't even sure if it would be in 2nd. shipment. Did any thing like this happen to anyone?
Didn't even start yet and am having problems, only problems I thought I might have would be in building this ship. If I didn't ask for him to send me some glue, If he sends it, because he said he has to request it. What glue do you feel I should use because I am not going to wait 10 days.

Thanks Al

Hi

No need t wait for the glue, you can get some Aliphatic quick grab wood glue from most model and hardware shops.

Also, if you have any other questions that are in relation to the HMS Victory or materials etc, can you please select the most appropriate section to post them in. This way more people will see your question and be able to help you out.
Cheers

Hi. How's everyone this morn? Ok, I Started my build of the HMS Victory, already made a few mistakes. The Cannon already lost the little part that goes behind the cannon. Cannon only came with 2 nails for the brackets that hold the cannon to the mount, not a big deal, will go to the hardware store and pick up a pack of small nails. Also screwed up on the anchor made cutout too big, so what I did was use a piece of small close spin wedged it in seems fine just waiting for the parts to bond. I course when I got the first pack the glue was missing, had some tight bond using that. Going to try to send you guys some photos, let me know what you think. Am thinking of repainting the cannon mount.

Welcome to the forum hope you get lots of inspiration here.

By all means post some pictures and if there is anything you need to ask please do so - there are lots of people on here only too willing to help.

You mention that your canon kit came with just 2 nails. I think you may find these are reserved for later in the build when you use these to secure the canon to the decking.

I believe that depending on country the glue is sometimes removed. May have something to different laws applying in some countries. I know in some instances labelling and composition details have to be shown.

Your choice of titebond is a good one.

Hope you continue to enjoy your build.

Happy modelling

Tony

Hi Alleyboy, nice to hear you have made a start on your build. As Tony says, the nails are to secure the cannon much later in the build and by then you will have plenty of pins.

If you are going to begin a build diary to show your progress with pics etc then you need to create a new post in the Victory build diary section -

http://forum.model-space....aspx?g=topics&f=21

Good luck

Steve

Hi! It's me again, still trying to post my build, but having problems, just contacted admin to see if it's something on their side. My question to you when I am ready to install hull ribs do I put numbers towards The stern or do they facing bow.

Thanks

Hi Al, it doesn't really matter which side you number the ribs as they will all be covered up anyway as the build progresses. I would number them on both side and above and below the deck level, the numbers are there for your reference when it comes to planking the hull... Cool Cool

Hi, as Alan says, it's not really important as they are reversible, although may be a good idea to have them facing the same way with the "A" formers on one side and the "B" formers on the other, this may make it easier for final checks to make sure each frame is in the correct keel slot before gluing. Also, Alan's point of marking the frame number a couple of times on each frame is a good one as you will need to see these when planking.

If you have further questions and they are specific to HMS Victory then they can be be placed in this section but please name the topic something relevant so members will see the question more easilyBigGrin

Cheers

hi! all, I hope I am posting this correct, but I need some help. Can anyone tell me on the long boat(34') when you do the planks, do I glue the bow side on the center of #2 or on the sides of #2. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
Al
