Well I just had to build this one, it has been my favourite airframe for many years and now Airfix have designed this kit, I must give it a go.
First of all a little about the Javelin.
The Gloster Javelin was developed in the 1950s as a two-seat, all weather interceptor. Serving with the R.A.F during the late 1950s and much of the 1960s also if I remember it was the last aircraft to bear the Gloster name. So what was it developed for the aircraft originated from a 1947 requirement for a high performance night fighter. The Gloster design was very distinctive with broad delta wings bit like the (typhoon)today, and also I think that large finned T-tail again like the (VC10)of yesterday.
The aircraft first flew in 1951 but due to problems it meant that the first production aircraft did not reach the RAF until 1956, previous versions being under powered and difficult to fly. The definitive variant was the FAW Mk9/9R - FAW standing for Fighter-All-Weather and the R denoting its ability to be refuelled in mid air.It was however liked by its crews and is an important RAF type with its wing mounted armament and other features bridging the gap between the older jet fighters.

Speed: 710mph.
Range: 954 miles.
Wing span: 52ft.
Length: 56ft.
Armament: 4x30mm Cannons.
4x Firestreak missiles.

Will post soon.
Regards to all.

Trev.

Hi Trev

That really is a very nice kit indeed.

Airfix can certainly produce some very good kits these days - just a pity they do not hang around to long as they seem to do so many now as limited editions. Guess from their perspective it's a good business model and "forces" people into deciding very quickly if they want one or not.

That mosquito kit of theirs in 1:24 was a good example.

Hope you get great pleasure building this one.

Happy modelling

Tony

Hi Andy,
Thanks for taking a look at my new build, this is of great interest to me as it brings back the years when you could only build the Javelin in balsa.

UPDATE:
1st/2nd/3rd Picture.
With the cockpit now finished it was now time to start to think about the next stage, that was to fit the side panels to the seats, this is a the moment is going well no gaps yet .Also in this picture you can see that I have assembled the two front jet tubes, and a first coat.3rd picture shows final coat.

4th Picture.
In this picture I have assembled the rear jet tubes and the holding brackets all going well so far.

5th Final coat.
If you have a look at the nose there is a small sample of the final coat, but I will be sanding that small gap.

Next job will be to dry fit the top section this is were I think I will find a few small gaps.

Thank you for your time and for looking.

Best Regards

Trev.

Brilliant build going on here.

I love this aircraft it just says so much to me about the time. A real quality to the design and build over the years we seen to have lost something.

It's a time that does not seem to have a name to define it but if someone said Art Deco most of use would know the look and the time. This era of aircraft production was something really special - maybe still a lot of drive and innovation flowing through from ww2. The stuff they produce these days does not inspire and to be fair most of it does not work despite the billions beind spent.

I see airfix are lining up a 1:48 red arrows gnat and a 1:48 folland gnat so looking forward.

Think you will have a stunning model at this end of this one Trev.

Happy modelling

Tony

Tony,
Great comments thank you, this aircraft has stuck in my mine for to many years, it looks to me that some airframes of today are very similar, the tail VC10,the wings Typhoon? etc.Still this is a good well constructed kit.
I will post more very soon.
