Welcome aboard, looking good so far  If you resize your images to 640x400 then they should appear as pictures rather than attachments

Managed to resize and upload photos correctly. Does anyone get their issues delivered through Bissett magazines? I subscribed late, got issues 11 - 16 delivered, had to back order 1 - 10 which also got delivered. The website dispatch details shows - Issues 20-23 were despatched on July 15th.Issues 24-27 are scheduled for August 15th. I only have to issue 16. Is this something to be concerned about? Hi Fred. You've done a great job on the balsa infills. They look very good. You'll find the infills a great help when planking as they give you the outline shape of the hull and also help to stop depressions between ribs. Keep up the great work mate. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Thanks guys. Done with the balsa filling, gives it a solid feeling. Done some painting, and worked on the cannons and launch. Launch was a disaster. Managed to bring it from the scrapyard to something more presentable. When cut from the support frame it didn't come of as expected. Some ribs broke off  . Went scavenging around the house and put this together with that. Got the idea from the SOTS website. Still some rounding off to do but will do this when planking is done and the keel is in place. fredsmit attached the following image(s): Current Builds:

Fred An excellant slipway you have built there. One word of caution for you (I learnt the hard way) - when moving your kit around be very wary of the bowsprit as it very delicate until filled out with some of the other parts. I managed to break mine at the point it joins the hull. Had to get a replacement magazine. Look forward to more of your excellant updates. Happy modelling Tony Happy Modelling

Hi Fred. You're obviously very handy re woodwork looking at your dock. Looks great. Certainly a great way to hold the ship firmly upright while working later on the upper areas. You're total build to date coming on great. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Thanks Alan/Tony/George "Slipway" so that's what its called? I'm learning something every day. Anyways, made a few purchases whilst waiting for issues 17 - 20 to arrive, news is that it will be dispatched 15/08, so delivery should be next Wednesday/ish. Purchases include plank bender, Archimedean pin vice + 1mm & .5mm drill bits, and a nail nailer all in anticipation for planking which commence in issue 17. Did some plank "dry fitting" yesterday and by the looks of it, should not have a problem, fingers crossed. One area of concern is I have is with the high humidity we have here in Cairns, North Queensland. Any suggestions on varnish or any other product? Fred Hi Fred, hope it's not too long before you get your issues so you can going again and we can follow your progress..... . Not sure what products you have down your way but because of the high humidity, I would probably go down the route of using Danish Oils and woodstains. My preferred products are Colron's selection of Wood dye and Danish Oil, they come in various colours and are easy to apply... Once dry I then apply Ronseal Clear Varnishes. Depending on the finish you wish to achieve would determine whether you apply matt/satin or gloss. I would recommend doing some test pieces first, this would give you a better idea of the overall look before applying to the build itself. You will also find as the weeks go by there will be some useful articles on stains and varnishes that will appear in the magazine and this is well worth reading.. Finally, there is a wealth of information on the forum on this subject, if you use the 'Search' facility at the top of the page and enter keywords such as 'Woodstain', 'Varnish', etc then you should find the information you need... ...
