Hi Andy,
Good to see the use of soldering. Certainly the cab lends itself to the technique.
regards

Are you soldering with a torch or an iron? I used to do a lot of soldering at Boeing. ..Also have soldered some copper water pipes. I guess one can't mix solder and epoxy methods as heat causes epoxy to soften. Gary D51, Senna McLaren. Pocher Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 Monza 1931 1/8 scale. Hi Dennis Thanks for looking in and your comments , the cab certainly needs to be soldered as a butt joint where it is will never hold with just glue in my opinion regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Gary I used a 70 watt equivalent butane gas soldering iron that you can use a solder tip or the tip is removable so there is a flame only. For this I used the flame as I wanted to heat the metal up quickly, I put the solder on the inside and let it flow through the joint my only mistake was using to much solder but it will clean up ok with a little elbow grease. I got the soldering iron off flea bay there is a wide choice, hope this helps Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I've been having good luck with the medium thick CA and 30 minute epoxy...of course whatever method is used requires thorough preclean. I wipe parts with lacquer thinner as soon as they come out of the pack...then go over with steel wool or 400 (if it's a glue joint) then wipe with thinner again. Things will get another pre clean prior to etch primer or paint (inside smokebox) D51, Senna McLaren. Pocher Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 Monza 1931 1/8 scale. Hi Gary You clean up like I do but without the steal wool bit generally your right about most of the glue joints being well catered for with super glue or epoxy, it was just in this case that I felt solder was the way to go. When you see the parts Im sure you will agree and the solder helps fill the gaps here aswell Regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
