Hi,
Can anybody tell me if the mast support supplied with issue no.10 is glued in place or left loose?
It is shown in place in issue 11 but no reference made to it in the copy, then incorrectly in issue 15 and again shown in position in issues 16-17-18 & 19.I have left it loose at the moment but having fitted the lower deck need to know as I can still apply any glue if required at this stage.
Many thanks for any advice given.
Regards

Hi CMB! BigGrin

The mast support isn't glued inplace until the lower deck is fitted in issue 17 use the PVA glue mixed with 30 per cent water and paint it into the joint as explained in step 8, page 11, issue 17.

OK! ThumpUp

Many thanks Son of Bulwark.
Guess I missed that one as I took it to mean all the rib joints.
Still a lot to learn.

the 30% glueing leaves a lot to desired,I have done this before on another di-ag kit, does not work! brush on your glue neat, much stronger join.

Same here Karl...I shall be brushing my glue in neat using one of my daughter's old art brushes (they're a bit stiffer) Gives me a chance to use up that glue that came with issue one...LOL

Which, in my opinion, is a load of rubbish. I glued the bow bulkhead and formers using it and 24hrs later I could push the parts out with my fingers.

Have you tried brushing around the joint you wish to glue lightly with plain water, then brush on neat pva glue before all the water dries up. The water opens up the fibres in the wood and lets the glue flow in, as in a capiliary action. Works for me..

I take it that you mean the supplied glue was rubbish and not the method Confused

Hi doremi495! BigGrin

The supplied glue is rubbish, looks as if it's already been watered down by at least 50 per cent. Laugh

CMB the glue I use for wood is Evo-Stik weatherproof wood adhesive as it's stronder than the wood itself. Dries clear, fast setting ensures a good bond within 5-10 minutes and is at full strength in 24 hours.

As I made the Multi Jig I'm not doing the build as the magazine says, I have the internal keel held in the jig and apply the glue with a brush to the rib & keel slots. Then slide the rib into place checking the top of the rib is inline with the top of the keel. I move the sliding rib support upto the rib to hold it square, I check the next slots and adjust if needed. As the glue bonds quickly I can glue the next rib in about every 10 minutes. When all the ribs where glued in place, I glued the top of the keel & ribs for the desks, put the desk in and pinned them, it all fitted with no problem. LOL

There is always another way to do a thing, it up to you as the person making the model to decide the way you will take.RollEyes

The ship is square and still held in the jig, the Multi Jig link is below:-

Thanks for all your help and advice guys.
Like many of you I was not happy with the supplied glue and have 1Ltr.
of industrial strength PVA adhesive which I an using.
This is very strong and even when diluted with 30% water is still
thicker than the original white glue supplied with issue 1.
Believe me when this dries you will break the wood before the bond parts.
Once again many thanks and happy building
