Well, here we are! BigGrin

I've finally managed to get two of the sides clad in their birch wood panels, a process which became unintentionally more difficult as one of the lengths of birch (which I chose for its really nice wood grain) turned out to have a nasty hidden flaw which meant the most complicated side panel, the one behind the German trench suddenly became not one intricately shaped panel but three separate pieces of wood, each bit needing to be glued back together, sanded smooth and then bonded to the foam board base. In the process it developed a horrible warp. I've fixed one part of it, the far corner will hopefully straighten up when the other side panel is in place. If not some 'tasteful' brass decorative corners will suddenly be part of the original plan!Blushing

With the two sides in place, I can finally take completion photos from the German side of the diorama. When I get the other two sides in I can then complete the photos with the ANZAC troops and tanks and also the interior of the bunker.
So until then, welcome to the German 'Group Wytschaete' XIX Corps currently occupying Trench "Ulrica" alongide the ruins of Petite Douve Farm just to the south of Messines Village.
The ANZACS to follow soon!

Robin

PS. Still lots of Build Diary posts to come yet as I fill in the gaps!

Sincere thanks to everyone above for their great comments!Blushing Apologies for the delay in posting this second set of photos. Tragedies and leaking ponds have been taking up my time a bit but here's the 'other side' at last, the Aussis and Kiwis of II ANZAC Corps attached to Plumer's 2nd Army as they arrive at the German front line.
Apart from the Medics and their casualties and the soldier carrying the Lewis Gun, all the figures are straight out of the box, the conversions mentioned here will be the next instalment in the ongoing diary!

Better close ups of the MkIV tanks to follow...

Hi again to All.

As you might have seen in the Messines Build Diary, the first 'experimental' contemporary sepia photograph received a very enthusiastic reception! Blushing So here is part one of the expanded Messines Photo Album with the original photos 're-engineered' to remove as much of the model base edging as I could, leaving the battlefield as it might have appeared in 1917 vintage photographs.
Part two featuring the Allied side to follow.
