UPDATE:ENGINE SIDES.
Very ease to assemble but in my build a tricky part towards the end.

After gluing one engine side to the back plate and squaring up and test fitting to the airframe all ok and leave to set for 24hr.

Try to Airframe.

Next I removed the engine front and side from fret also the centre hole, then I smooth and sanded all fret parts, test fitted the front frame with engine sides all ok, this is the bit were you only stick one side of the engine front but check for square, I choose not stick the engine front at this stage but preferred to wait.

Next was to dry fit engine formers 12/13/14/ with only one engine side glued it left me free to try/ place /and /adjust the remaining this became tricky to hold together, but clearly I could see that it was not square towards the front? (it all seemed squared to me) The only way I could see was to file a bit out of the side slots which I did, ( this is why I didn't glue it) the only problem now is you need 6 pairs of hands to glue it all at once, but it worked.

Can you see in this shot how the formers lean forward these are not glued at this stage.

This shot shows how I assembled it with out the engine front to me this means I can still adjust.

This shot shows the use of elastic bands to shape in the front section.

This shot shows the engine front in place and clamped to the Airframe.

That's it for now more soon,

Regards
Trev.

The next few shots show how I got on.

UPDATE:ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
The last few pictures were the first stage assemble of the engine compartment, this stage I am assembling the upper reinforcements struts. This I found not bad to do as all the joints lined up and kept square, the only one I had to adjust was a front nose former but I am sure it was me as you will see in the pictures.

This picture show's the top struts, top struts (rear) reinforcements, and front nose reinforcements.

This picture show's the longer reinforcements/the shorter (rear) reinforcements.(this photo is a bit blurred sorry)

This picture show's the nose formers in line A/B/C just a point to look put for A former has a flat top.

The last two pictures are as far as I can go until I receive my next post.

All the pictures today are of the underside of the nose/engine compartment.

Thank you for looking.
Regards
Trev.

Hi Trev, BigGrin BigGrin

Steady progress and to the usual high standard.Cool Cool

Looks like a lot of parts in a small space, did you have "any" problems with getting everything lined up to complete this part of the build and if so, any hints or tips to cure the issues.

This is surely a build diary to be followed by anyone wishing to start the SPITFIRE build.

WTG

Happy Building

Some nimble fingers being used on this area I can see.

You have managed a very clean finish to this area - looks a very good job indeed.

Happy Modelling

Hi Derek,
Thank you for looking, Derek I must say that this kit just fall's together as you will find when you start yours.
The only problem I had was at the front end and that was small, the part was the small reinforcement strut which joins the front engine former and to be fair I think it was down to me, I did notice it before it set,but at the time I tried to move it but I could clearly see it would cause damage, I did dry fit this section and all seemed ok, so I can only think I must have moved it, so the only way was to file it back.

Regards
Trev.

Hi Spencer,
Thanks for your time, and to look at what I am up to, as you say it is just starting to look a bit like a Spitfire, and that's the exciting bit when you stand back and look and think yes (that's worth while).
