Alan Very nice idea with the addition to the red on gold -it does indeed make a big difference. Like you canon rigging idea as well because it can be a real pig to get them all even and neat. Happy Modelling

Tonight I wanted to see if I could get the first cannon fully fitted to the gun deck and I'm very happy with the final result.... .. Was looking at coiled ropes and to be honest I made one up the same way as was made for the launch, all nicely coiled and flat..... Wasn't too keen on it when laid on the deck, for me it just looked false and too neat.... Played around with different ways of coiling rope and finally settled on one I was happy with....... Now ready to finally fit the other 9, a fiddly process but worth taking time over...... Happy building all..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Great work once again Alan! Those coils look much better, the 'flat on the deck' type might be fine for an 'official' inspection but in the heat of battle the ones you have made would be much more likely! I've just read to the gunnery section in the SOTS book and from the descriptions, the gun tackle is pretty much identical to the way it was later on in Nelson's time so the way you've rigged yours is spot on! Keep 'em coming! Robin Thanks for the very kind comments Robin, I got most of the information from the same book but wasn't sure if I'd got the accuracy right for the period..... .. Rigging the cannon was quite a long process but I think worth the effort and as for the coils they were very simple to do, however on reflection I think they may need to be just a little bit bigger.. will try on the next cannon to see and replace if necessary.... If members want to know how I did it then I'll put up a short tutorial in the Know How section..... .. Thanks again... Regards Alan

For those members following on with this build and approaching issue 77 there is something I need to point out.... Issue 77 goes on to build and paint the figurehead platform however, it has been brought to my attention and I've checked this myself and found the same, the platform contains 3 holes where the legs of the horses fit. Would recommend you wait until you receive the horse in issue 82 and check the fitting to the platform before painting the top gold. The hole for the front leg is in the wrong place which means you will need to fill in the hole and re-position it before painting...... Happy building all....

Hi Ponty, have not built the Vic as yet but can't see any reason why it couldn't be used in a simplar way, the cannon rigging for both ship was set out in much the same way.... It just helps to get the basic rigging done so you don't have to fiddle around so much when it comes to the actual fitting..... Thanks again... Regards Alan

Cannons fitted down the starboard side of the main deck, fiddly job but with patience am pleased with how it went... .. Decided to take a break from the cannons and got on with issue 106 consisting of 4 more pieces of bling plus the middle and upper fighting tops for the mizzen mast.... How these were made up are the same as those described earlier in my diary so not going to repeat here.... .. Fighting tops now safely stored in a marked bag ready for later in the build..... ..
