W.I.P. I'm afraid the progress on my cannons has come to a stand still. (ahhh)
I was merrily getting on with it when the new design of the barrel put a halt to it, so the cannon I was preparing for a visual feel is now in the work shop waiting for a replacement barrel

The axles are 1.5 mm brass rod, its easier to get a clean finish, the wire that was supplied for the axles was a bit of a joke.

As for the paint I mix all my paints till I'm happy with the colour, and I never use a paint in its pure form i.e. I always weaken the strength, the pictures below are of my white launch, but actually its light blue, and the black has had white added to weaken it, the purpose is the scale, and I never use gloss on a model it shows all the imperfections too easily, you can see the colour of my launch in the last picture,,

I wasn't happy with the plank bender so I drilled a hole in the handle so I could screw in a drywall screw through it, I filed the point off the screw so as to use as a depth stop.
You need to drill a hole just big enough to be able to self tap a screw through it, be careful not to break the handle

I wanted to change Victory's stern to make it look more like the real thing (the stern gun ports are at a too acute angle) but after calculations I found that the bottom deck is 10 mm too high (JOHN McKAY`S book) and as the stern gun ports are on the bottom deck things start to get complicated. I was contemplating lowering the bottom gun ports by 10 mm and altering the other decks up to the top to comply with my calculations to cure the problem but without drawings from deagostini its all getting a bit hectic,
I'm still sticking with the build it is a wonderful model and I enjoy putting my mark on the build (like many others with excellent results) but how can the bottom deck be 10 mm (thats 840mm in real life) too high.
I have never done a wooden build before, but to find big scale errors is worrying, so the question is, is this normal in wooden builds or has a novice like me made an error in scaling somewhere. Anyway all this has brought me to a decision to completely scratch build the victory along side the AL one, I will be attempting it at 1/72 scale, I want to do it in less than 20 years so I will be buying the cannons and anchors etc etc, all my drawing`s are taken from JOHN McKAY`S book and rescaled at 1/72.
