I have taken up the long journey of building SotS... Started my build diary quite late so gonna play catch up...
I am now on part 11 of the build .. So I'll post a few catch up pics

Really enjoyed building the cannons and painting them ... Although the should be clean and well kept .. I decided to wash them to give them more character .

Moving on to the main hull and false keel... I waited for the full keel to arrive before starting the assembly .. I glued the entire length of the keel in one session clamping te entire false keel to the work bench to ensure a consistant straight assembly... Unfortunaly I didn't get to take the pics ..

I then started to assemble all the ribs and dry fitted them before assembly.. I also made the jig that was mentioned in issues 5-6... This did help a lot ... Had an issue with some of the parts that arrived that were warped.. For these parts I soaked in water and clamped them to a flat surface for 24 hours .. This did help, but they still had a slight curve .. I now at the point where all ribs have been glued into place and I am getting ready to lay the first deck plates...

The next assembly was probebly my most eagerly anticipated part of the build so far... The daunting launch... As this is my first ever wooden model build .. I was very excited to give this a go....

Started off with energetic enthusiasm... The jig assembly went well and started my first planking ... Followed the guides until I had a little slip of the hand shaping the 3 plank along the keel.. Applied to much pressure and broke three of the launch ribs .. This killed my spirit... Took a week off and gathered myself after RE ordering part 9 again wanting to start over .. But in the interim I repaired the damage and moved on with the planking.. At the end it turned out quite well .. For a first timer ... Today after 3 weeks of frustration and learning finished planking my launch ..

On the launch... I am playing with the idea of staining the top three planks and painting the bottom antique white... I am also considering placing the launch keel before I seperate the launch from the jig ... Will post more pics once I have played with the idea ... Also looking for any suggestions on wood staining products I could use ..

Great to have you on board Paul and it looks as if you are off to a great start.... Launch looks fab and you wouldn't know you had had any mishaps... very well done...

If you resize your pics to 600x450 pixels then they would appear on your diary rather than having members having to download them to take a look. If you are unsure how to do this then the link below should help you along..

A very nice finish to your launch planking. It's one of the trickier elements of the build and looking at your your result you should get on very very with the main ship hull. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Happy Modelling

Ok .... Been awhile since I posted... Fixed my pic post problem... And have gone a lot further down the line ... Finished my base frame construction and the first gun deck ... I had a few problems with kit parts being warped and misaligned... Which I fixed with some patience and careful measuring ...

I also took the hint and guidance to reenforce the hidden gun walls.. With balsa... And added extra blocks to support the second deck ... Very sturdy construction.. Feel very happy with the out come

Moving on... After having a very early mishap ... Shattering the ribs on my skiff ... And ordering a second ... I decided to finish and repair the damage ... I was very surprised at how it turned out in the end.... And coated the entire boat with a 50/50 mixture of wood glue and water
