David Been following the builds on this one and although I could not quite work out the locations I think you have had some rib sections with what looked to me could be torpedo tube cut outs (2 equal size holes one above the other). I know the build does not cover this section so was a bit intrigued as to were these rib parts go. Overseas purchasing is a real pain I know. Modelexpo in the USA do sone fantastic kits at bargain prices (stashed my brig syren this way) but postage and outside ec countries import duties are a killer. In a way it's a slight shame that someone already building this in the countries that have had it a while has not scratch built this area and posted details. Still I guess it's good that someone has decided to market an upgrade (bit like the hachette titanic from a few years ago. They included card cabin details that are poor to say the least.nbrass replacements that loons tops are available but very very expensive) Hope the rest of your build goes well, and look forward to your views on the update set. Hi Tony,
I can't guess what those first two ribs are for myself, although looking at the pictures in the introductory supplement that came with issue #1, the model appears to be built with the bow torpedo doors in the open position. Therefore I would hazard a guess that some sort of tubes will be incorporated in the build at some stage to display the 'business' end of the tubes, and that they will sit in those circular openings in the first 2 ribs.
It's all supposition of course and I agree with you that it would be nice if some posts had been made of the European build which is some 6 months ahead of us in the UK.

BUILD UPDATE #3
Hi shipmates.
Much to my surprise, I had a package in the post this morning which turned out to be the MDF parts for my forward torpedo room conversion. MarineModelWerft have surpassed all my expectations of a long wait - they had quoted 4 week delivery, and to receive them within a week is outstanding.
Anyway, the MDF parts replace the frames #1 and #2 from the build and use a couple of the parts that were supplied in the 'standard' build.
To see the difference, I set to work cutting out the MDF parts from issues #1,#2 and #3 and dry fitted them together. I found them to be an exceptionally good fit with no extra work involved in getting them to sit correctly. I have taken some photos to illustrate these differences.

That was quick, still waiting for mine but I ordered some of the resin parts at the same time and suspect these are made to order. Received issues 2 & 3 of the partwork today but will await the conversion parts before proceeding with the build.

Yes it was, I was most surprised because as I said, I hadn't received any notice of dispatch. The 2 downsides are that frame #13 will have to be modified slightly as you can see from the pictures so that the bottom notch fits the new frame. The second is that the instructions that came with it are in German, so I'll have to find some way to translate it - not sure how at this stage - I'll have to think about that. But all in all, a very good mod and the parts are of the highest quality and I'm certain you will be as pleased with them as I am. Let us know how you get on with them.

Well, I've managed to get the instructions translated using Google - thanks Graeme - and all they say really is that the parts are CNC-milled rather than laser-cut which means that there is a slight curvature on the inner faces of the slots which will require squaring up somehow - a small square-edged needle file I assume - to achieve a perfect fit.

David Hope you get on fine with your conversion set. Starts to annoy a little when you look at the hachette promotional for this kit and realise it looks totally wrong only having the 2 rear compartments open. This does look like an interesting build so looking forward to seeing how you progress with this build. Happy Modelling

Thanks for sharing that Andre, it's nice to see one taking shape. I didn't realise how far ahead the European build was, I was guessing when I said it was 6 months so if he's on issue 30, he's further ahead than I thought. It looks like the builder is putting up weekly updates on You Tube so it'll be interesting to follow that to see what's coming up.

Just received both my orders from Germany so I now have the full set of parts for the modification although instructions with the parts just about zero so should be fun.
Will try to post photos soon (just about to start decorating!!!!) either here (if ok with you, don't want to hijack your diary) or I may start a diary of my own.

Hi Graeme and thanks. What a great find, I'm sure that will help us hugely with this mod. Between the lines, I was beginning to have reservations as to what sort of mods would need doing to the original parts to make this work, but you've certainly come up with goods here. I guess the only way is forward.

The upgrade parts start to look really good having seen that instruction sheet added. It will make a big difference to this model adding this very important part to the hachette kit. Happy Modelling

I'm itching to get started but still awaiting my next shipment of parts from Hachette before I make a start and of course, Pemberg has all his conversion parts whereas I'm only buying mine at the rate of a few per month to suit my budget, so you guys may well see Graeme's version before you see mine.

Hi David
I have just been dry fitting my enhancement parts and on looking through the photos on the instruction link it would appear that the horizontal slot at the bow should be cut through the same as the one on the deag part 1. Don't know if you have glued part 5 (deag forward bulkhead with the holes for the torpedo tubes) yet but if not it would be easier to cut the slot ends before gluing part 5.
I also noticed my enhancement parts do not have the angled slot cut out above bulkhead 13. It is not on the deag parts and I can't see anything that fits it unless they were going to include the torpedo loading hatch but there are no parts available for this on the web site.

Hi Graeme, thanks for that 'heads up'. I haven't started glueing anything together yet; all the images I shot were just laid out and 'dry fitted' just to show the differences. I dare say there will be lots of little alterations like those you've just mentioned, but I was impressed with those instructions you found, albeit in a very literal translation and took a little thinking about (especially since I haven't got any of the parts as yet to get the feel of it).
Hope you'll post some pics on here of your progress with the conversion. I will get started in the next few weeks on my build - just waiting for my next subscription delivery to arrive.

Glad to be of help. I think its about issue 22 before any of the resin parts can start to be used. I will start a build diary after I have received my next delivery which is due end of the month.
I also just received the directors cut of "Das Boot". Good going as I only ordered it from Amazon yesterday (Sunday). Especially good for up here.
