RN (Regia Marina) Roma, one of the largest and most powerful warships ever built in Italy. A battleship of the Littorio class, the first “35,000 tonners” to come under the provisions of the Washington Treaty. She was commissioned on 14 June 1942, joining the 9th Navel Division in August the same year. The last Italian capital ship to enter service where her career was very brief. She went to sea on 9 September 1943 enroute to Malta to surrender to the allies following Italy’s armistice with the allies on 8 September. When in the Gulf of Sardinia, she was spotted and attacked by German aircraft. The RN Roma was sunk by a powerful new type of guided missile known as the“Fritz X”, a radio controlled guided bomb designed for use against heavily armored targets. A compliment of 1,849 officers and men where only 596 survived. Her career lasted 15 months, during which time she didn’t participate in any combat missions mainly due to fuel shortages in Italy.

This is a Hatchette partwork and one of the biggest reasons it appealed to me was its non-availability in the UK, making it quite unique. This means I am delighted to bring her to the forum. I have the complete series consisting of all 140 issues and from what I have seen of the packs the detail is superb and the quality of the parts is excellent. She is around 1200mm in length with some very fine detailed etch. When I will start to build her is as yet unclear but can say it is high on the priority list. The only downfall I see at present is the series is all in Italian but think I can follow using the detailed pictures provided in the instructions, anything I don’t understand then I’ll have to resort to Google translate. Hope you like her…

WoW! Gandale she's a smasher! This is one kit I've seen and wanted myself. And to get a complete kit too. Do complete kits come up for auction often? And did you get it from e-bay or another provider?

It's a beautiful ship, and I have no doubt its going to be a fantastic part-work. I'll be watching this one with interest! Well done in getting this one! Drool Drool

Alan

Looks like a very nice kit indeed.

It amazes me at just how many of these part work builds are becoming available now across the world of all shapes and sizes.

It's getting so difficult to know what to opt in for. Not always helped because of the limited run of some of these items.

Now if only that lottery would turn in my favour - problem then solved BigGrin
Happy Modelling

Hi Glen, am pleased you like this one and hope you will enjoy the diary... No, I didn't get this on Ebay, like I said I don't think this has or will appear in the UK, I believe the only place it was released was Italy... I was fortunate enough to get this through a friend who obtained the complete kit....
