She is thought to be heading to a port in Turkey where she will be scrapped - despite a fight by campaigners http://www.dailymail.co....onsigned-scrapyard.html

Apparently, the HMS Plymouth Trust were in Court earlier today, which has ruled that the Trust has a claim to her.
Peel Ports do not own this ship, and therefore it is now a matter of theft.
Hopefully Plymouth will be brought back if the legal papers can be served in time, though I doubt that Peel Ports will allow it to be brought back to the same dock.
Their website has been suspended due to the volume of traffic, but this statement has been posted on their facebook page: The following was posted today by HMS Plymouth Trust Limited Director, Laurence Sharpe-Stevens:
""UPDATE ............ THE IMPOSSIBLE ? ... EVERYBODY READ THIS I have spoken to the Barrister who's firm is Ashfords of Plymouth. He thinks we have a strong case but it will cost money.
SO HERE ARE THE HARD FACTS:- He can go before the Admiralty court in the morning and have the ship arrested and to apply for ownership of it.
However both he and I would have to sign personal indemnities to the court to be responsible for cost if needed. If we lost this could be in the region of £25,000 to £30,000.
As a result the Barrister said he would need £5,000 in his account by the afternoon. I am appealing to all of you out there to give what you can on our site via the Donate Button. http://www.hmsplymouthtrust.co.uk/
If we cannot do this it is goodbye to her""..................
Please be assured that this is HMS Plymouth's last chance to be saved. Even if you can donate just £1 it will help. Please, we appeal to all our valuble members.. donate what you can at www.hmsplymouthtrust.co.uk and share this link as much as possible to spread the word. We have come this far.. please lets not let the men in suits win and destroy our history to line their pocket. HMS Plymouth belongs to the nation and should be preserved for us all to enjoy.

Steve What a very moving story and such a shame that this is being sold for scrap. I know these things cost a fortune to run as museums and the like but would have thought something could have been done. Guess the next war we fight will see our troops being sent out in row boats. Thanks for sharing an interesting article. Tony Happy Modelling

I think we all knew that it would end like this. Despite all the long hard years of campaigning, another piece of our naval heritage is gone forever. Any other coastal city with a namesake historical ship would have pulled out all the stops to return her to her homeport, unfortunately Plymouth has been cursed for decades with a city council who couldn't give a damn about our heritage. In the city centre there stands the ruined shell of a beautiful church which was destroyed in the Plymouth Blitz. That church became the symbol of all the suffering and loss of life Plymouth suffered during the war. It is now "The Soul" of Plymouth according to the city council. How conveniently they neglected to mention that it only stands there today because a public outcry prevented that same council from bulldozing the entire building flat to make way for a car park! It's been the same for years with the HMS Plymouth saga ... berths in Devonport became available as the council slowly took over the old dockyard but they preferred to sell them off to become luxury marinas (at great profit, but not for local residents of course!)Whenever any suitable scheme was worked out the council had 'no funds to support it'! RIP old girl, you served with distinction and deserved so much better.
