The US Air Force said the jet was from the 48th Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk and had crashed during a combat training exercise.
The pilot ejected from the aircraft and police said he had escaped with very minor injuries

I do think the news were over egging the case again when they were saying "It narrowly missed a primary school". The pilot would have been flying and in full control of the stricken aircraft right up to the very last second. The old days are gone where a pilot would have to eject at 1,000ft. All modern combat aircraft are now fitted with zero-zero ejection seats now, which means a pilot can steer the aircraft to safety and still punch out even as low as 50 feet .
