Folks, I dip in and out of this forum, but each time I do I am shocked by some comments berating Deagostini and wanting more and more for the money. My guess is the company have a lot of well satisified subscribers who don't post on this forum. I as a rule I dont have time. It would be interesting to know how many people have subscribed to this build, and what % post on this forum regulary. My guess is a very small percentage post on here. Why? DeAgonsoti would refund the moaners on here their money and close down the build! Well, I am one happy punter!! I have always wanted to build a wooden ship, I even bought an expensive kit, but it was just too daunting. The instructions for Victory have clear simple English, good tip balloons, and excellent colour photos. I am so proud of the launch I have just built - very rewarding - and I have learnt lots of new skills - all thanks to A++ instructions and hand holding. Even more, the magazine contains rivetting history articles that are well written and informative. I really look forward to the thud each month at my letterbox! I know by the end of this build I have have a magnifcant quality piece of furniture for my home, a real talking point, and the skills to build the kit I mentioned earlier... of course they may bring out another new build part works.. we all would love that..so please, stop moaning and appreicte the work that has gone into the magazine etc - terrifc value for money! S

I agree, and have been doing so since the start, I am a regular forum member, and subscriber, and I try my best to be as active as possible on this board, however, I do have a complaint about the cannons recently, but luckily enough, we only have two that are different, but the problem is, if they are not going to be replaced, we are left with the poor detail, but if this is a one off, I will be so pleased, but and it's a BIG BUT! what else will be changed along the way, but if it's in the reason of quality, then I have no complaint, as long as were not left with any odd pieces that should be replaced to match! Best Wishes David Ship Builds on the go

erm i dont think we want more for our money or moan i just think that alot of the threads are people voicing thier concerns of uncirtainties in the build, like the copper plating was an uncirtainty.
the odd cannons should be replaced to ALL SCIPTERS not just us on the forums lol. and that actually comes from trading standards. (dont worries i didnt mention the companies name, i simply asked weather or not they should be replaced or not) anyway, we just like to know where we stand and because this build is alot of money (especaily for me being unemployed) so i would like to see little mistakes like this recitified. i would ask no less from any company. its simply a matter of standard, do you let standards slip because of a minor error with suppliers? or do you offer customers the option to have them replaced? i'd offer them the chance.
anyway i wouldnt take the moaning to seriously, most of the moaning on this forum is simply a misread cover. like the copper plating. and i understand your points but i understand the complaints as well. oh and every issue came with a couple of freepost envelopes thre is a good chance DeAg would get alot more complaints and requests.
oh your also forgetting the number of emails they will have got and now many people will have telephoned them.

Well done Silver, glad someone else see's it the way I do! I asked "why all the winging" in a previous post, because I felt a lot of the guys seem to fly off the handle about things without waiting for answers, take the issue recently when someone asked if we would be planking the cut-away section, we ended up with a load of posts about people ether slagging off De-Ag, dropping out of the build or spending money doing modifications, then we find out there was nothing to worry about all along, as a complete slot in section would be provided! Someone once told me that you must have loads of patience to be a model maker, can't think why they thought that?? Don't forget it's in De-Ag's interest to keep everyone happy! Jeff

Hi Jeff ...i feel pretty much the same as you and silver....the only problem i ever had is when the aft parts got mixed up....other than that ...DeAg has always been very helpful...as for the cannons debate....i reckon they will replace them...as the new cannons are white metal and not brass the cost is a lot cheaper...i just look on the bright side i have freebie cannons...

S I cant understand why people have a problem with others bringing up problems on this forum? its an open forum Deag are at least an honest company they could if they wanted just delete all the "bad" post but they dont while I have had a couple of problems and they have always been sorted by Deag and its good for the company to show that they are willing to sort things out. I dont know where you live silversaxman but the world isnt all fluffy and perfect surely its better to be honest about problems than sweep them under the rug. My one piece of advice to anyone who doesnt like as you call them moaning theards is DONT READ THEM! simple. And just for the record I think the Admins on this site do a great job.

Well said Silver and I'm sure you speak for a lot of others doing this build. Little is ever said about the magazine but I have found it a very interesting read and is something that I would buy in the newsagents anyway even without the build parts. For anyone who has ever tried to build kits from Billing Boats then believe me the quality of the instructions we are getting here are outstanding in comparison.
I dip in and out of the forum depending on what I need to know and have been both delighted and exasperated by the contributions in equal measure. However folks are entitled to use this forum anyway they please and if that's to complain or chitchat then that's their prerogative and credit to DeAgostini for allowing it.
I'm enjoying the build and the relaxed pace of it's progress. I don't really give a damn about minor differences in cannon barrels and whether it's the 1765 ship or the 1805 but clearly some do and best of luck to them. In 2 years time when I have a model to be proud of on display I can't imagine anyone walking in and being able to point these things out anyway.
For me this project is about the journey and not the destination and I'm determined to enjoy it all the way.

secretreeve wrote:2 years time? might be a stupid question but is that the length of this build? The build is over 120 issues so yes it will take 2 years to build, provided you keep up with the magazine that is, however if you are anything like me it will probably be nearer 3 years Regards,

I have had three builds like this one and all of them took between two and a half to three years to put together, believe me, it don't seem that long when you are building these models..In the end, you'll wonder where the hell the time went... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

I think the Deag have done a pretty good job so far. A few days back I had a look at another similar Victory kit in a model shop as I was curious about the instructions provided. What you got was a set a complex plans and a few pages of instructions. There is NO WAY that I would have been able to build such a kit without the necessary skills. I think that the experience gained and help (both in the magazine and this excellent forum) far outweigh the extra cost of the magazine build over buying the kit outright.
I also enjoy reading the articles in the magazine which are very informative. If you are building a detailed model it does help to have some background information relating to the ship's design and the period in which it served.
