I would also like to point out that this is the same wood dye used to re-coat the desk that I am using to build on, so as you can see, gives a great colour to all kinds of woodCool

Hi all,

Back from a while away, I have been collecting coffee stirrers from my local fast food restaurant, after getting some rather funny looks, (not surprising being as the woman who filled them up caught me grabbing a load) the wife has gone on-line and bought 1000 for £5....bargain. so I will be spending the weekend catching up on the 6 issues I have yet to complete.

below is a preview of some work and many a robbed idea from other ship builds across this forum.

Good to see you back Pinks, I hope your being away was not caused by "nicking" the stirrers.Blushing Blushing ...You are making great progress and she is looking good................Tony

starting to panel up the side of the ship, I am happy to admit, this is one of the most fiddly things I have done in years.

Massive amount of respect to those that have done a great job, still with a bit of sanding once finished, it will look a lot better.

Good start with the planking mate, slow and steady wins the race, well that's what my Mum used to say but she was a rubbish runner..............The way they do it in the instructions seems a bit strange at first but it does work out alright in the end...............Tony

hi all,

Back again from the wilderness,

I have been having a little trouble with the panelling but now have completed 1 side and well on the way with the other.

I have been struggling with bending the panels around the curves and holding them secure to allow the glue to dry....but then remembered a program watching long-bow making on the discovery channel. wet the wood, bend and dry...so i thougght i would give it a go...here goes.

And as if by magic.......a nice curve in the wood, allowing it to follow the curves in the ship and stay with minimal tacking.

and so I have not only worked through one of my problems but have also justified to my wife the hours that I have spent watching docomentaries.

hope others find this handy.

happy moddeling

coming along very quickly, little bit more panelling and I can start putting the lanterns back in as around half have fallen out with the constant tipping of the ship.

finishing off the last full row now, then to cutting down to open the full window into the ship. I guess that this will be the slowest part of the process to make sure no mistakes....and I will go through a handful of blades for my v=craft knife too. still, progress has been quick over the past couple of days.
