Hi FolksBigGrin

Good afternoonCool

I have been building my SOTS... and I'm at issue 5..I will post photos as soon as I have procured a decent Digital camera.. as the one I have cannot get in close for detail shots.. I have two of the cannons done and on rib 16 with the 2nd mast post glued up. I'm waiting on my next issues arriving and will post photos ASAP.

on another note!

I have had the first months Santisima Trinidad package and on checking the parts 5 of them were warped, 3 ribs with about 6mm needing to be altered at the top ribs and the bottom deck with 7mm runout at the R/H edge.. all needing soaked and flattened... The ribs are trued on the false keel and squared but the top of the rib is out by about 6mm once trued!!Not happyCursing Cursing with the price of £30 per month if this is happening! the parts are bagged and numbered and looks as if they have been taken from magazines with the backing still attached to the blister...HMM Cursing Cursing Cursing NOT HAPPY!!

Hi David, BigGrin

Firstly, glad to see you are getting on Ok with your SoTs build.
Hope to see a diary soon. Cool Cool

Now, I`m not building the Trinny, but the system is the same for defective parts.

In your pack, you would have received some paperwork.
On the paper there will be a customer care contact number.

Contact them, explain the issues you are experiencing and they will send out replacement parts.

Hope this helps and good luck with your builds in the future.

Regards

Hi Derek

cheers for the replyBigGrin

I have taken note of your adviceBigGrin ! but have had the parts soaked & pressed under a weight for a while now, and the ribs will need some small Snagging work to straighten out the run out (now about 2mm instead of the 6mm)...I'll straighten the ribs with a cross bearer made out of scrap balsa in between each rib at the proper build stage(decks) that should sort it!... I was moaning at the time, but will contact them if I get any more problems (hopefully not!) last thing I need is paying 30 quid for parts i'll need to do remedial work on!.. I had enough of that tosh on the building site.. correcting other blokes bad joiner work.. LOL!

kindest Regards
David

Hi David, BigGrin

Glad you`re getting sorted. Cool Cool

I have myself done some minor remedial work at times, so understand your frustration.

Good thing is, there is always help and assistance available on this forum.
Also, as previously stated, you can get replacement parts if those supplied are not up to standard.

In the mean time, "HAPPY BUILDING" BigGrin BigGrin

Don`t forget to get a diary going if you can. Then if you get issues in the future, people can give better assistance with pictures as a reference.

Regards

Cheers Derek!

I will get the diary going asap...I was mucking about with ST tonight and the top forward deck "I think" will straighten No.1 & No.2 & no.3 formers along with the 5x5mm stretchers underneath.... as for the the rest of the ribs on the first months issue even with the bottom forward deck will need some spacers to pin them evenly using some HOT cyano then pinned. two ribs were 7-8mm out on the starboard side and that was with them trued with a set square! unbelievable!.. anyway it "can" be sorted.

De Ag also sent me the next download for issue month 2... licking my lips waiting on the arrival (friday).. I'll see what that package contains?.. My SOTS has no such problems (touch wood yet)..and the kits must have been checked after Gandale pointed out the uneven Ribs 13a+b..still a Quality kit so far!

Happy building Derek!BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Hi David, so sorry to hear of your problems relating to some parts you have received... Some problems unfortunately cannot be foreseen, however in saying that there is a wealth of information on this forum that will help you to rectify the majority of them.... Failing that, as Derek has pointed out CS will do all they can to help resolve your issues by replacing any faulty parts with the minimum of delay..... I've found some parts problems with the SOTS as has been documented on my diary but have always found a solution to enable me to continue. I have found the quality of the SOTS to be excellent and the build to be very enjoyable and challenging at times.... Hope you will take the time to publish a diary of your builds as I for one would definitely be following.... Good luck with your build...

Regards

Alan

Hi AlanBigGrin

Cheers for the reply, just one of those things!... I must admit I was a tad peeved at it, but its going to work as I put on the top deck to dry fit test and the front two formers and rib have straightened a good bit. the lower deck had a god bit of run out at the Starboard side but I'll rectify that by putting a fillet in at each side of the ribs to secure and level the deck. I soaked it and left it pressed below a marble cutting slab @ 3Ib...It still had a runout!!Cursing

my SoTS is a quality kit BigGrin and I mentioned to Derek that you spotted that rib 13a/b was out of line... They must have corrected it as mine were ok.. it was the first parts I checked thanks to your eagle eye mate!BigGrin

I will publish a diary soon, as Eleanor has not been well for a while and the ship has had to take a backseat during this. I'll also have to get a better camera as mine is not up to much with the detail shots.. i have a 5mp video camera but the still close shots are out of focus. I got into a seafairing frame of mind by watchin a few old movies last few nights...the original mutiny on the bounty..and the remakes....I must admit, Anthony Hopkins was the best Bligh by far but laughton wanted to hang the blaggard twice LOL!!!

Happy modelling mate! BigGrin BigGrin
