Hi all, start of another build. I am building this with the torpedo room enhancement which I have now received but as yet I only have issues 1-3 of the Hatchette parts (issues 1 & 2 mainly being replaced by the enhancement parts). I expect issues 4-7 next week. I have not glued any parts as yet but the photos show the bow with the bulkheads sat in place as the enhancement mdf parts are milled, not laser cut, which means all the slot corners need to be squared off with a needle file so the bulkheads fit correctly - which they did with no problems. As I mentioned in David's build the ends of the horizontal slot just behind the forward bulkhead will need to be removed which I will do once all the other bulkheads are glued (but not the forward one) so as to prevent any excessive opening of the slot. The photos show the parts I have to date, including the enhancement parts, laid out ready to start the build. The last one is a close up of one of the torpedo room bulkheads. I am now waiting delivery of a set of walkaround cds/dvds from uboataces so I can see if any further detailing is necessary for this or any other parts of the build. Well done Graeme, Good start and thanks for the heads up on the horizontal slot at the bow of the torpedo room. It's good to see images of the torpedo room conversion parts beside the build itself and I'm certain they will do your build proud. It looks like we've got some research to do on colours and that DVD you've ordered will be a big help with that. I've been searching the web for a set of authentic 'kriegsmarine' WW2 colours but so far no luck. Looking forward to seeing more images as your build progresses. Happy building David

Hi again Graeme, now we know what you'll be doing today . Had a suggestion about 'weathering' the model. You seem to have a fair few models under your belt, have you tried it before and will you be giving U-96 that weathered look? Happy building David

Hi Haven't really thought that far ahead yet. I have used pin washes etc. on aircraft to bring out the panel lines but haven't done any serious weathering (rust etc.) before, always been afraid of messing up a good paint finish. I know that's what weathering is supposed to do but you what I mean. Graeme

Looking good already !! As you know there are a few of us building this and all starting at roughly the same time so it will be interesting to keep popping over to see how we're all getting on Dave You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Graeme Apologies if posted in the wrong section with several u96 builds underway thing I maybe got confused as to who was asking about sources of paint. Life colours are a good range but look at the size of this beasty your going to need a lot so maybe better using those colour cards and mixing. Apologies again - will be a bit more careful next time. Happy Modelling

Sorry birdaj2, I believe it was my fault Tony. I was making a passing comment in an earlier post to Graeme and I think that's where the confusion arose. Apologies again. The links were very useful though and as you say, we're going to need a lot for this beauty. Happy building David

I think we will all be keeping an eye on each others builds to check on progress and any info/tips we can pick up - the advantages of being on a forum like this. Well I've done as much on this one as I can just now - just have to wait for more parts. Back to sanding my Victory Hull. Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):

Hi All Not sure if you sub builders have spotted this but Birkenhead has a 2 WW sub on display, raised in 1993 she was origonaly displayed as a full hull sub but the closure of the museum put its future in jepardy. Now it has been sectioned into 4 parts to allow full interior veiwing. links below. http://www.bbc.co.uk/liv...ast_uboat_feature.shtml

Nice find Andy. Wish I'd known about this a few months ago as I was back in Warrington in July, could have gone and seen this. I was aboard the british sub on display at Chatham dockyards in Kent. Graeme
