Hi all, still awaiting parts to continue the build but when I got home from work today I found the walkaround dvd/cd's that I ordered from uboataces waiting for me. I have only had a quick look at them just now and they seem ok. There are 3 discs :- the first is a pc disc which runs through your browser and has schematic plans, photo's, videos etc. of the u boat including some nice interactive panoramic shots of various sections of the boat where you can scroll round 360 degrees. the second is a 25 minute dvd giving a tour of the u boat. There is no commentry to the dvd, just background music and sub titles giving the area of the boat you are looking at. The 3rd disc is a cd with 19 tracks of u-boat songs (in german)and sound like period recordings, something to listen to while building to get you in the mood  . All in all they do seem to provide a good reference for painting and extra detailing during the build. Graeme

Hi Graeme, that's got my juices flowing, can't wait til I get my copy of that DVD. Got fed up of twiddling my thumbs waiting for the next issues to arrive, so I've used the time to make a long overdue start on my HMS Victory cross-section build. I've already completed the frame and am working on the lower planking at the mo.
Have you taken a look at our European cousin on YouTube lately, he's up to part 38 now and most of the hull is now covered with planks and plastic moldings - it's starting to look really something now, but it's a shame he doesn't pull out the shot to give us a more complete view of the work in progress - still, we can't have everything.

No i've not checked you tube since he was on issue 34, i must take a look. I have been working on my Victory while waiting for parts. Have now finished sanding the hull, attaching the keel and am working on the stern gallery. I should get D51 and Zero parts next week.

Just a tad cheaper in post number 9 although the eBay one is postage free. Life colour paints I have used in the past but they never seem to leap out on any of the model sites and almost remain something of an unknown. I think for this build they will be buying paints "by the gallon". Happy Modelling

Thanks guys. White ensign also do a range of Kriegsmarine colours which I am looking at. I also found the following document on German U-Boat colour schemes. http://amp.rokket.biz/do...lours_with_photos_5.pdf
Towards the bottom of the document are links a German site giving a detailed listing of interior colours, one for 1940 and one for 1944. The pages are in German but I just right clicked on the page and selected 'translate' and got a good translation of the page. It lists both the primer used for various areas/equipment as well as the top coat. Graeme

Hi all Received issues 8-11 on Saturday and have completed them. She is certainly more sturdy at the front but still a bit flexible astern. The second and third photos show her upside down as it was the only way she would fit into the old hull clamp/stand I am using just now. Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):

Hi Graeme, That looks really good, I agree she's still a bit 'floppy' at the stern end but at least we're able to stand her up now. That's a novel way of using the keel clamp and shows the ingenuity that us modellers can apply to the task Happy building David PS: Thanks for finding that doc on the colour scheme for U boats. It's very definitive and really opened my eyes as to the variety of colours that were actually used in that period.

Hi all, U-96 has been dry docked since son was home for christmas (was using his room for build as there was no room in my modelling room)and due to the weather he was late going back to uni. I was going to restart the build at weekend but then realised that my next 4 issues were due this week so I decided to wait for these as they include the bolts and longitudinal stringers so I will be able to ensue a good fit and a solid finish. The photo shows the way she haw been stored, clamped to the build board using the old rib frets as spacers to ensure the hull remained straight. Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):

Well my next delivery was waiting when I got home but when I opened it I found they had sent me 2 issue 18's and no 17. After a call to customer services issue 17 will be sent out. Just another minor delay.
