I like the idea of the cutaway bulldog clip, looks like I will have to consider that. I know where you are coming from, I just thought a reminder about shaping the planks even in the middle of the hull was worth a reminder.
BTW I reckon your graphics are spot on, what software were you using?

Mike T It was good of you to bring the point up, it was only after I read what I had put, did I realise it was a bad example, but between you, Collin and myself I think we managed to make three points, so a winner all ways lol Thanks for the prais on the graphics, I love doodling etc but need loads of practice. Im using Abode Photoshop 7, my wife bought it for me when I was trying to take up Photography, but the science of the hobby completely blew me away It's a good programe, I usually use it for making forum Graphics for a few sites I invade. Here are some of the graphics I have made Some clan medals Some forum buttons all the above were made with Abode Photoshop 7 PS Sorry for going well of topic Ship Builds on the go

I guess it must be Photoshop Elements 7 otherwise PC World are being far more generous than I would have expected! It covers 95% of the features in Photoshop but is only a fraction of the price. Either way you are getting the results!!! Mike T

Continuing on from the fairing of the hull and as mentioned before about laying a plank across the frames, these pictures show what a bulldog clip can achieve. I got these pretty cheap and the idea really as mentioned is to help hold the planks in place until the glue has set, as I did with my bounty hull originally was to hold with my fingers, as you can expect this caused a lot of problems namely super gluing the tips of my fingers to the wood, not good! These can be used when fairing as the example below shows. The clip, 3 clips makes 2, the pictures shows how its done. There is not a massive amount of tension onto the wood being held, but more than enough to hold the plank in place. Another option is to keep the clip as it is and add a small bit of wood to hold the plank down. I've just layed this down as an example following the lower deck. This picture show frame 15, as mentioned before this needs to be faired/sanded quite a bit, small bits at a time and re check. Its another option especially if you don't want to have nail holes in the wood.

Are the nails only used as part of the construction rather than as part of the final look?
I will be painting mine so I assume the nails won't showing anyway so if I can get away without using them the better.

John Hi John, I think the usual practise is to knock the pins part way in to hold the plank while the glue sets and then cut the heads off with side cutters and then sand down. If this is wrong someone please correct me. Jimmy Jimmy L.

True, pound shops are a great place to look for tools and stationery. I've had some great little finds in these. My last was a set of 8 little plastic clamps. Always worth looking in them before forking out more anywhere else. Jimmy L.
