Hi all,
If you are building the model without the cutaway section (as I plan to do) where will the cannons and crew members from that diorama be used. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.

I am thinking along the lines of incorporating the diorama as part of a display stand, how this is going to be done is going to depend on the size of the diorama that DA provide as the insert for the open model option..

Good idea, I don't know why that didn't occur to me before  . Follow up question, Are we going to get fake cannon ends to put in the open gun-ports on the lower decks or are we expected to make some up or just leave the ports empty? Kev

I am planning to do the cut-away but i will be making a slot in section so that there is a panel that is removable ...to show the insides....just like my arora models that have been re-released since the 60's.......if there is any interest i will post in the builds section ....also there will be a lighting section....as to light up these sections..

John,
Do you mean you will have the cut-away as shown as an option in the magazine, but will build a section of hull to cover the cut-away when you don't want it on show?

Hi Kev ...yep it will be a removable section of the hull..it will be built as normal then there will be spacers and markers to make the cut out easier so the inside two gun decks can be hidden (well almost as you will see the cut lines)...starting some time this week i will be posting (with pictures)..how to do it...and working along side with the build....well thats the plan anyway..

Kev ...the good thing is that extra supplies will not be that expensive....the only extras will be for the lighting...like 4 led's and about 3 meters of wire some 1.5 and 3mm of balsa...as for the lighting some have said that the led's may be too bright ....this can be corrected with the help of a "variable resistor"..which will act just like a dimmer switch....i have one in my living room ..(thats where i got the idea from)...and a 9 volt battery connector...thats pretty much the shopping list ...and good cheep suppliers is what i will pass on as the weeks progress... .John...

John,
For the lighting you would be better off using "grain of wheat" bulbs, this is what we use in the club exhibition layouts. You can get them from eBay, model rail shops or maplins.

Kev...i did think of using grain of wheat bulbs ...but they have a shorter life than an led...also using square ..or hex edge led's the edges and base (or i should say top)..can be painted black to give them a lantern look...if it works i will pat meself on the back...if it don't ...i'll kick me own arse....

sounds most interesting snowtiger. i will keenly follow i dont know what weapons will be used in ww3 but ww4 will be sticks and stones.

Kev Kev...I have been using Humbrol Matt 154 for my launch build, the nearest I could find to yellow ochre...I will post a picture of it painted in Humbrol if it helps...Oh..and welcome to the forum Kevin... Kev ...Jonny7..is using the same colour as me the humbrol 154...is the nearest i could find as well...later when it comes to painting the outside of the hull .....i may get the marine set that everybody mentions on here .....but for now the humbrol.154 is perfect for the gun carrages and launch... .John...

sorry Kev the 154 is an enamel...but it covers well....as for the descripter...not sure....you can check it out on e-bay...or any good model paint supplier.....as a description it's ....a sandy, mustardy,dark yellow....i just stick to it's number...

Thanks for that info John, slightly off topic (but I started the thread so I make the rules) do you know the equivalent to all the other colours between cornwallmodels and humbrol/railmatch?

hi, Humbrol matt 74 is supplied as yellow ochre in the airfix kit. in my view its a little pale but you can varnish some humbrol satin cote to give it more lustre. as far as the diorama is concerned my plan is to have that as a model in its own right super detailed alongside the victory. each cannon will need 5 crew as victory went into battle at Trafalgar with both broadsides ready and so the gun crew is halved. i have purchased some additional ribs to allow me to do a ribs and deck display base. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

Sorry Kev ...but i only know whats what by trial and error ....the only thing i can reccomend is to look at each suppliers colour range .....i think most of them have website shopping...so you can check them out before you part with any cash....living in whitby restricts me to two things.....fish and chips and e-bay....
