When I painted the launch I found that the wood grain showed though quite a bit. Somewhere in this forum it was suggested to use sanding sealant to fill the grain and provide a better paint finish. As a test I painted an area of some of the spare plywood from the launch build with just paint and another area first with 2 coats of sanding sealant and then the paint.
The area with the sanding sealant did have a better finish but I noticed that the paint would flake off much more easily than the area with no sanding sealant.
Should I be using acrylic primer after applying the sanding sealant and what if the best method to obtain a good paint finish that is well bonded to the wood and will not flake off? Perhaps a coat of acrylic varnish is what is needed. Can anyone help?

I use PVA & Water 50% Dilute - gives a good sandable (whet & Dry) finish and cheep You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

the sanding sealant need to be finely rubbed down with wet& dry grade 400 should do it,then thin your paint down 'bout 60% paint and apply several coats, then a final rub down with 600 wet & dry used wet,and then final coat 'bout 50/50 and that should do it. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Sounds like a couple of good solutions which I will test out. Do you also use acrylic primer which I have heard people mention?
