Hi All,

Finally started the rigging this weekend. Fitted the fore mast shrouds. Thanks must go to Stevie for his method of fitting the Deadeyes.
I tied a slip not on each pair of shrouds, I'll label them once the Deadeyes are fitted.
Kind regards,
Garth

Hi Garth,
I actually find the rigging funBigGrin The best thing about this partwork though is that the instructions make this job so easy, every knot is explained, so much better than when you buy a kit of this size and you have to try to figure out where everything goes from the plans and instructionsCrying

Hi Derek, Alan, Hans and Steve,
Thanks for the looking in, and the inspirational comments.
You are right Steve, the instructions are very clear and seem easy to follow - the rigging is also my favorite bit.
Kind regards,
Garth

Hi All,
Completed fitting the Deadeyes to the lower shrouds this weekend. MAN, did I battle aligning the Deadeyes. I tried all sorts of things. Firstly I followed the books instructions, secondly I made a jig to hold all shrouds in place, then finally, I decided to bind each Deadeye temporarily in place after fitting the heat shrink. This seemed to do the trick. Other than that, I have basically followed Steve’s tutorial.
In hind sight, perhaps it was more so that I was able to string a couple of hours together to finish the task. Rather than as with the Foremast, fit three or four Dead eyes, pack the model away for a few weeks, then hall it out again to fit five or six more, and so on…

Looking good GarthBigGrin That's basically what I did with the deadeyes except instead of the temporary bindings I just numbered them with some tape to avoid getting them mixed up. Look forward to more.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for looking in. I have removed the Foremast and bound the shrouds on the bench rather than on the model - as you suggested. It is much easier. I'll add some pix as I get there.
Kind regards,
Garth

Hi All,

Completed fitting and binding the lower shrouds.

I found my fly tying kit to be a great help securing the parts to be bound.

1.Clamp a bent dress makers pin into the jaws of the vice.
2.Slip the heat shrink over the pin.
3.Bind as per instructions. (The Hackle Pliers are a great help keeping tension on the thread)
4.White glue applied.

My thoughts on repetitive jobs like this: Doing a bit here and there can be so counterproductive. Where possible, try to complete the job in one sitting. I find that with every one that I completed, I was fine tuning my methods and eventually I was getting quite good at it.

Well, enough rambling – back to work.

Kind regards,
Garth

Hi All,

Started on the Futtock Shrouds this weekend. Basically following Steve's heat shrink method, except this time I used my Whip Finnisher (From my Fly tying gear) to do the binding. I know this is'nt true to the original, but most of the binding is hidden anyway - and it's a lot faster.

Kind regards,

Garth
