Hi All, Here we go with issue 24. Introduction: This has proved to be the longest and most frustrating (at times) section of this build, due to the size/ or lack of size, of the parts and the detail level. Here`s the parts supplied with issue 24.Pic 1 The only part used in this session is the box section. All other parts are from previous issues that have been stored until now or parts previously made up to a certain point, that now need enhancement. The pic below shows the parts used in the following section of the build. The unmade box section is from issue 24 parts and the rest from previous issues.Pic 2 The work involved in this section should be up later today, when I`ve had a photo editing session. Hi all, Here`s the work involved in issue 24 (Part 1). There are bits in this session that have really tried my patience. One part in particular, was nicked by the "CARPET GREMLINS" on no less than four occasions, when it pinged out of my tweezers. Cost in search time must have totalled well over an hour. To that end I had to come up with a construction method that would overcome this problem and foil the "Gremlins", more on that later. The official instructions tell you to make the box section second, after you have enhanced the previously made box. It doesn`t matter which way round you do it, as when the box is constructed you do nothing else with it, until a later stage in the build. So here we go with the next box section. The blank in the "Hold and Fold" for the first bend. This is a long box and the hold and fold makes it so much easier to get these bends straight along the whole length.Pic 1 Then the resultant bend.Pic 2 This is then repeated on the other side, to produce this result.Pic 3 The last faces of this box section all come from the last remaining section of brass to be bent and fitted. To aid in the accuracy of the bends in the last side of this box, I bent one face at a time and stuck in place, leaving it to set after every stage. Here`s the end result.Pic 4 That`s the box section finished for now, it`s put away for future enhancement. Have to stop here as my son is on his way with the "Rug Rats" Oooh, I mean the Grandchildren. Issue 24 (Part 2) hopefully later, but may have to be tomorrow. Sorry can`t give you the end weight, unable to find the info for that one anywhere, but here`s some stats for you as it is today. Scale 1:16 Length 71cms Span 93cms Height 24cms Centre fuselage, 0.412 lbs Other parts made, 0.196 lbs Parts not used yet up to part 25 (inc scrap), 0.181 lbs Rest of brass parts up to issue 120, 6.5 lbs (inc scrap) Total scrap brass to date,0.582 lbs This will end up as one big beast and weighty too. Total issues = 140 so more weight to add after the brass. Will put in some data updates from time to time to see how its going. Steve Hi Steve, Thanks for taking the time to look in and the comments. As for the skin/half skin the options are there. Not sure which way I will go, suffice to say I`m not gonna cover up all this detail and hard work, so very unlikely it will be a full skin job. Will update on that one at a later stage, but still a very long way to go yet and other projects hiding in the wings to eat up my time, but HEY HO it. Hi Alan, The box was a break from the heavy detail in micro parts I must say, but you still have to get the bends accurate, or you end up with a piece of mangled brass. Issue 24 (part 2) will be posted tomorrow, as Grandchildren paid a visit this evening. Think you will be seriously impressed when you see what the etch can make in this instance. 26 parts added to a box section made earlier and it still fits on a penny, well 2mm overhang. Until then Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Here`s the next stage in my "Stuka" build. Firstly recover the part shown below, as this is the next enhancement work to be done.Pic 1 The enhancement parts are left over after the completion of issue 23, fret number 887. As before cut the parts from the fret and remove any burs with a miniature file. The first two parts are identical and are stuck together before being stuck to the main box section.Pic 2-3 The following parts are facia enhancement pieces and they are stuck into their relevant etched places as shown.Pic 4-5 The next part, other than being seriously small, also needed to be bent at right angles in two places. Pic 6 My smallest pliers, still made it impossible to fully bend this part as required. So I bent the part as much as I could using the pliers I have and then used the smallest finger on the "Hold and Fold" to finish the bends by inverting the part over the finger and pinched in both sides at the same time with pliers. This is the result.Pic 7-9 Having managed to get the bends required, the part is stuck in it`s place, on the last etched space next to the last parts fitted.Pic 10-11 Ok, so with that small issue out of the way, things took a turn for the "WORST". The next part took an age to fit and included at least an hour (over four sessions)recovering said part from those dreaded "Carpet Gremlins". Don`t mind telling you, I spat my dummy, cursed, swore (Wifey went to kitchen at this point)refrained from kicking the cat as all three of them followed Wifey to the kitchen. This is the start of the madness, "THE PART".Pic 12 The part is a switch and has to be fitted inside the last piece fitted to the box. After several miserable failed attempts, I put everything away and worked on a plan. Pliers and tweezers failed and caused the loss of the part four times as it flew across the room. Finally came up with this solution. Low tack masking tape, cut in a thin strip. Folded the ends over to ease the task of removing the tape later.Pic 13 Stuck the part in place and left to set.Pic 14 Having given this bit plenty of time to set, removed the tape.Pic 15 Problem over, moved onto the next part. Still very small, but fixed to a point that was easily accessible, to the right of the switch.Pic 16-17 Again we have two identical parts to be stuck together, which are then stuck in place.(Pic not good, but part can be seen on the top right hand corner).Pic 18-19 Attention now turns to the main face of the box. Numerous parts are now stacked one on the other to produce two control levers. The following pics show the sequence of parts. A couple of plain discs have been omitted from the sequence of pics, but you have to take care in the orientation of the rest of the parts. (Clearly shown in the instructions)Pic 20-24 Just having a lever in this scale is not enough for this kit, even the lver handles get enhanced.Pic 25-26 This is what we have when the first lever is fitted.Pic 27 After the addition of a couple of plain discs, the second lever is fitted and the handle enhanced.Pic 28 The outer face of the second lever is then enhanced with three more parts added to this base plate.Pic 29 With the last three parts added you get this final result.Pic 30 Well that's the end of issue 24, I think the longest session and definitely the most challenging so far. Issue 25 coming soon. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Here`s the first part of issue 25. I`ve broken issue 25 down into 3 parts, due to the amount of work involved. Well not so much the amount, more the complexity of this part of the build. So to start, here`s the parts supplied with issue 25.Pic 1 We add to those parts, the remaining parts from issue 24 and one of the previously made parts.Pic 2 This section of the build will enhance the part previously made and construct another part to be added at a later stage. In the first pic two parts are added into there relative etched places and the second pic shows two levers added to the same face of the unit.Pic 3-4 The levers then have additional parts added to give them more shape, then the first of four parts are added to the end of the box to produce a control dial.Pic 5-6 A further three parts are then added to the end dial.Pic 7 This gives the following result.Pic 8 Final part is then added the end dial to give it it`s final shape.Pic 9-10 So here`s a pic of the unit as finished to this point of the build.Pic 11 Now at first glance I could not see the relevance of the next part of the build and it wasn`t until I looked as far forward as issue 115 that it became apparent. Won`t bore you with the detail at this point suffice to say it fits on the above unit, just much later on. Not sure why so much later, but will stick to the instructions. Here`s the parts.Pic 12 The three parts are stacked and glued one on the other, in the order shown to produce the following result.Pic 13 So, that`s all for stage 1 of issue 25. The rest of this issue will follow shortly when I`ve got more time to post the results. In the meantime, Happy Building. stevie_o wrote:Lovely work Del That last round part looks like it could be the elevator trim wheel Steve Hi Steve, Thanks for looking in and the comments. As for the round part, it`s quite possible, but very hard to tell from the instructions. Apart from the fact that all the instructions are in German, they just seem to say that the parts being built at the moment are instruments for the "Pilots Cabin". That`s the literal translation. The good thing is, that the pictorial build instructions are excellent "So Far" and there is little need for translation for the build itself, or I could be in big Doo-Doos. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Lovely detailed work once again Derek, brilliant stuff.... One thing is for sure, by the time you get to the end of this build you will be an expert in working with etch... .. On the subject of translation, should you have difficulties in that department or you just want clarification the I would give Der Gohfelder (Bernd) a shout, as he is German I'm sure he would only be too happy to assist.... Keep up the wonderful work and keep those pics coming... Regards Alan

This kit is a great introduction to brass etch, maybe not because of the quantity, but for the fact that the bending is made easy by pre-scoring of the parts. The best thing is that you get a serious amount of practise sticking miniature parts together and searching the carpet for the bits those pesky gremlins keep nicking. More to follow soon, Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
