Thanks guys, Well I managed to get the painting done on one side today, some little touchups needed but there is also a 1mm white trim to go above each wale so not too concerned of any tiny leaks as they are hidden. I painted the base red first then masked for the wales painting, I then re-painted the masking in red to seal any gaps and when dry painted the black. The black paint is the admiralty dull black which I always find too shiny so will be giving it a once over with some humbrol matt cote later. I have painted down beyond the waterline, this will be marked off later ready for the coppering. Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Hi Steve, Great stuff, Do agree that if that`s dull black, then it needs toning down without a doubt. (Very Shiny for Dull) Still wonderful stuff. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Thanks Del, Yeah- it's the same paint used on my Vic, very nice paint though but certainly not "dull" although it's not as shiny as appears in the pics, more of a satin id say. The humbrol matt cote cured the Vic paintwork perfectly so will be fine on this one too Cheers Steve

Looking fab Stevie, the red and black are really striking and to be honest, I love it..... tone down the black is right and the whole hull will look superb when the tiling is done.... ... Very well done.... Regards Alan

Excellent work Steve, really liking how the colours of turned out.
What brand of paint is the admiralty paint, is this all hand painted or do you airbrush?

Steve Very nice colouring, Steve . . Good job !!I've read you have used the trick of colouring the masking tape to seal the gaps before painting black. I was told time ago about this simple trick but I never had the possibility to use it. It seems really to properly run, isn'it right ? Regards, Jack.

Hi Steve, Just a quick bit about masking tape. When masking up my SotS build I used "Frog Tape", the low tack variety. Looks like you may be using the same brand looking at the colour of it!! One thing they say in their ads, is that you can "run a water, wet /damp brush along the edge of the tape once applied" and this makes a better edge seal prior to painting. Done this with my SotS and it worked a treat, no leakage. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Thanks for the comments Trev and Andy, really appreciate you following @Dave, the paint is Admiralty by Caldercraft - http://www.cornwallmodel...ralty_paints_water.html
it is specially developed for 17th, 18th and 19th century ships. The paint is available in sets for many ships or also individually. @Jack, the painting over the masking tape with the same colour first seems to work very well for me, you can also use a clear varnish to paint over first instead. @Del, the masking tape I use is called Stuk Proffesional from CMB, it seals well and is fairly lo-tack too. I think once you find one that you like you tend to stick with it Anyway, just a pic to show the matt cote worked very well and has taken all the shine out of the black apart from a very slight satin finish which I quite like. The red looks a bit orange in the pic but this was just the light It's really very bright red! Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Thanks Ian, Finished adding the white 1mm trim strips, these were obviously painted before fitting to avoid having to mask them off. The blue colour is also going to be used on the gallery, it looks very red at the mo but there is no more red to add on the entire build so it should look better as more is added. Cant wait to get the gunport frames in now so may jump ahead and start this next to cover up the raggedy port cutouts Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
