Hi All,

Count down is now seriously on, with only four days to go.

Today I have painted the upper and lower hull colours, with only a thin black stripe left to do at the water line.

All parts that are still on sprue`s have now been painted.


Still left to do:

When black line on hull, fit decks.
Fit deck parts.
Finish and fit deck towers.
Heck of a lot of railings to fit. (Hardest part)
Final paint touch-up.

Rigging and crane cables will be added as a last item.
Reason for that (and a minor copout)is that it`s not even mentioned in the kit instructions and I did say this would be straight out the box.



Pics as it stands by todays work.

Lower hull painted, (second time I`ve used my sprayer and only first time on plastic). Pic 1.


These are the parts still on there sprues (painted), but not including approx 50 railing sections (painted). Pic 2.


What follows in the next four pics, is as much as I can show at the pre gluing stage, with parts just put in place and the rest of the parts in front. (Upper hull also painted).

You're getting there Derek, she's looking great. ... Paintwork looks fab and to think its the first time you've used your airbrush on plastic..... Very well done....

Hi Alan,

The clock is ticking for sure, that`s why I threw caution to the wind and went for the airbrush. Just a 10 second practise on the back of a plastic picnic plate and off I went.

Pleased with the result and still possible to get it done in time, unless excessive work hours get in the way.

Time will tell.

Hi All,

Firstly thanks to Steve and Alan for looking in and the kind comments.



Today I was going to apply the decals, but having seen how naf they were I have decided to hold off and have ordered some 1/350 flags from another source. The few decals other than the flags are fine and will apply all at the same time.

When the replacement flags arrive, I will show you the comparison of both sets and the best set applied.

In the meantime below is a selection of detail pics as things stand at the present time.


So that`s that.

My findings on this kit are as follows:

Hull warped as shown in earlier pic. (may be a one off)

Railings for plastic are very good, but kit would benefit from brass etch rails.

Brass etch for stairs, cranes, catapult and signal lights would really enhance this kit.

Ships flags to be discussed at a later date.

Finally a diagram of the ships rigging would be a good addition as a final finish to what is a basically very good kit.

If you take a close look at the main gun barrels you will notice that they are open ended and this is quite unique I think for a kit like this. Most need replacement barrels in brass.
