Hi I have a question at what issue should you be able to start the car ? I am up to issue 83 atm so I thought maybe you could run the motor in.. Does anyone know about this ? Paul OzzyDevil

Hi Paul,
The throttle and brake rods are not fitted until Issue/Stage 86, therefore you won't have any throttle control before this.
Issue 89 is the issue where you can start and test-run the chassis, which provides all you need to know about start-up and setting the engine etc.

Hi guys.. My father got issue 89 on the weekend but didn't get the info on how to start his rc car. The issue came for the newsagency So now im not sure.. Paul OzzyDevil

I'm only up to issue 87 with my subscription, but I have doing r/c racing for the last few years and I can give you some pointers if you like. With the throttle and break linkages you'll want to make sure that you can open the throttle all the way without the servo extending past the wide open throttle point on the carby. Also make sure that the butterfly in the carb doesn't close over and choke the motor when you use the breaks and also that the breaks grab when you apply them. So to start the motor make sure you have you glow starter charged up and some 20% or 25% nirto fuel in the tank... oh and the air cleaner on! First up put a finger over the exhaust outlet and give the pull starter a few pulls to get the fuel flowing to the carb, then put your glow starter on the glow plug and pull the pull start 'till she comes to life! Had you planned to do a gentle run-in or start putting around right off the bat?

We were just looking at a gentle run in I guess I just thought you had to run a few tanks first to run it in.. Sorry I never owned an notro rc car before so.. Paul OzzyDevil

yeah that's pretty spot on, Just let it sit and idle for 2 or 3 tank fulls (or more if you want to) Then start to drive the car around gently. Here is the manual for the GX21 motor, its good to know what the factory settings for the carby are if you ever get stuck and can't get your motor to run. http://www.kyosho.com/jp...4023BK_GX21_Engine_m.pdf

I know that there are different ways to run in a motor. I will run the car at light throttle with occasional bursts of throttle. The throttle burst will get longer and the speed increased with each successive tank of fuel . The motor must cool completely between tanks. Start rich and slowly lean out the motor as you go along. Just my 2 cents worth. It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop

Hi guys I can't tell you how happy dad and I are on our weekend start :) We bought run in fuel 16% which we did run 🏃 in for about 3 tanks.. The first tank it kept stalling after a few mins so we just kept starting them till we almost ran out of fuel ⛽..second tank it idled alot longer and I did slowly drive it up and down the road :) Third tank its running 🏃 really good up and down the road for about 15 mins and it didn't die or anything and I was having so much fun with it.. I was kidding myself saying I will just run 🏃 it in and putting it as a display model so next year I am building another 1 for that.. We also have 20% nitro that I might put s tank in it this afternoon and give it s proper tune 🎵.. I would love to see this with the 2 speed gearbox in it coz if it goes fast now the 2 speed will go like a rocket. OzzyDevil

Well done there Ozzy, and I hope that you and your dad have loads of fun. Stick to the 20% nitro because if you go to a higher nitro content you will get more wear on the motor. Well, we in South Africa still have a long way to go. Any chance of a video? It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop

Just my 2 cents worth. Running in is a controversial subject in Nirto r/c and I suppose the general idea is to wear in the piston and sleeve gently before eventually going to a full race tune. With my motors I idle them for quite a while (6-8 tanks on the run in bench) before bolting it in the car and doing as you describe, running with short throttle bursts and gradually increasing them with each successive tank of fuel.

Hi guys :) I have no vids on it yet but hoping to have a play this weekend and see what i can do. I really had fun with it the other week and i'm dying to stretch it's legs I would really love to see it with the 2 speed gear box in it so. The run in instructions come in issue 90 BTW if anyone wants to know :) OzzyDevil
