I'm MikeL. I've been modeling for over 50 years. I've even designed and manufactured HO Scale model railroad structures. I just have a love for various models and I'm looking forward to building the Hayabusa, the Fat Boy and the Millennium Falcon (once it is introduced in the US). I was blown away with the quality and workmanship of the two models I currently subscribe to. I've been watching the forum for about 6 months and it seems like a great bunch of modelers. I'm happy to be able to join.

There are so many outstanding build diaries on these two models already, that I don't know what I can contribute that wouldn't be repetitive. But that said, I'll pop in from time to time if I think I can add something to the conversation. I'm certainly willing to help wherever I can. Thanks for the kind words, it has made me feel very welcome.

Hi,
I just wanted to share a small sampling of the type of modeling I've been doing. These photos are of my personal train layout. I model in 1:87 scale. Many of the models shown are modified kits, but I also scratch build. At 63, I can really appreciate the larger scale models from DeAgostini. Just want, also, to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Mike

Lovely railroad layout you gave yourself there.

Karl is spot on with the D51 info it's a cracker of a model. I struggle with time as I work extremely long hours (just a shame I only get paid for a 7:15 hour day Cursing ) but the D51 build gives me just enough work that I can complete and feel happy about each month.

Happy Modelling

BUILDING: Hachette Spitfire Mk 1A, Constructo Mayflower
SUBSCRIPTION COMPLETE (Awaiting building): USS Constitution, Sovereign of the Seas, 1:200 Bismarck (Hachette)

Thanks for the information about the D51. I looked at it and it is a beautiful model. What caught my eye this fall was the Millennium Falcon, which drew me to the DeAgostini website. From there I saw the motorcycles and decided to try something on a larger scale than I had been accustomed to as a way to broaden my horizons. The materials used in the kits are different from what I'm used to (strip wood, cardboard and small pewter castings). I kind of chuckle when I read the builds and they say this part or that part is "fiddly" - everything in 1:87 scale is what you'd call "fiddly". But they are so incredible that I can't wait to be able to finish and display them. So, for now, I've got my hands full. But I'm sure there's an engine in my future BigGrin.
