Stage 55 - Contains tailframe bulkheads and the bulkhead fuel tank.

Remove any burrs from the fuel tank. Finish the tank and bulkheads in your chosen guise.

Fit bulkheads 14 and 15 into the corresponding notches of the tailframe.

Retrieve the left over 'B' tail braces from the previous stage.

Align the braces into the notches of tail framework as shown, and also into the frame bulkheads just fitted. Apply glue into each joint contact joints, then set the frame aside until the glue has set.

Fit bulkhead 15.5 and 16 into the tailframe and set with glue at the joint contact points.

Retrieve the 7b bulkhead assembled at stage 51.

Test fit onto the forward end of the tail frame aganist the bulkhead. Ensure that the notches are aligned (and where applicable) the brace ends also engaged. Apply glue between the bulkheads and brace contact points and lightly clamp together.

Retrieve the cockpit assembly.

Test-fit then glue fuel tank in place onto the inside of the firewall.

That's it for this stage.

56 - Contains tail baces and the reduction gear housing.

57 - Contains parts for the rudder and arrester.

58 - Contains tailfin parts and tail oleo strut parts.

59 - Contains tailwheel leg parts, headrest, brake line and the tailfin leading edge.

Stage 56 - Contains tail braces and the reduction gear housing.

Remove any burrs from the housing casting.

Remove the propeller shaft from the prop assembly and insert into the reduction gear housing to check the fit. Then remove the shaft and paint the housing grey.

Paint the reverse (aft facing) side of the propeller blades with semi-gloss black paint.

Reassemble the propeller assembly, and check that the blades rotate and also the pitch twist.

Separate the tail braces along their cut lines as shown, (paint them aotake blue if painting), then lay them out as per the diagram, numbering each pair A-G. Also paint the remaining short braces from stage 53.

Fit and glue the stage 53 braces as shown across frames 13a,14 & 15.

Locate notches A-H on the forward frame of the tail frame assembly. Fit and glue each of the braces in turn into the framework, fitting brace H and G last at the aft end of the framework.

That's it for this stage, store the propeller assembly. In the next stage the arrester hook will be fitted to the tailframe and the rudder frame constructed.

Stage 57 - Contains rudder and arrester parts.

Remove any burrs from the arrester hook and arm, then drill a 1mm hole through the arm at the hinge end at the point indicated.

Assemble the hook into the arrester plate, then glue the plate into position on the arrester arm on the angled slope. Then glue the remaining arrester plate onto the oposite side. Piant the arrester assembly black.

Cut a 6mm long pin from the rod provided. Take the arrester arm and housing, secure the arm into the housing with the pin, then loctate the arm into its holding slot at the opposite end.

Position the arrestor hook housing into the tail assembly as shown, adjust the fit so that it is flush with rib 13a.

Take the rudder parts. Separate ribs A-F from the sprue, then glue each rib onto one half of the rudder framework in the locations indicated.

Glue the opposite half of the rudder frame onto the assembly and glue the rudder tab into the slot as shown.

Take the rudder control horn casting, file the burr from its end but be careful not to change the shape of the locating stub. Glue and align the horn into the rudder assembly as shown.

That's it for this stage.

59 - Contains tailwheel leg parts, headrest, brake line and the tailfin leading edge.

60 - Contains an aluminium skin panel sheet, bulkhead sides and hinges.

Stage 58 - Contains tailfin frames, rudder hinges and tail oleo strut parts.

Use a 1mm drill bit to drill through the oleo strut parts at the points indicated, then carefully cut the parts from the sprue.

If you are skinning you model, carefully cut out the rudder skins from the self-adhesive sheet previously supplied. I will only fit the left (portside skin) as the opposite side will be left skeletal.

Prime and paint the rudder skin as you chose for the aileron skins.

Glue the oleo hinge onto frame 16.

Take the rudder hinge parts and fit the ends as shown, then secure the hinge with a rivet and flare the rivet with plies as shown. Glue the hinges into the respective slots in the rudder.

Attach the rudder skin as before and trim any excess material. You may find you need to apply glue on the tight corners to prevent the skin from peeling back.

Fit glue the tailfin frames onto the fin braces for the left side, engage the frame into the notches then apply glue.

Glue the rudder hinges onto to the tailfin upright, locate the tabs into the slots and apply glue.

Fit and glue the tailfin frame on the right side.

Glue the tailfin leading edge ribs onto the tailfin brace, then set the assembly aside to allow the glue to fully set.

Assemble the oleo strut as shown, (only apply glue to the case halves and ensure that the strut piston and the drilled end cap move freely). Cut cut a 4mm pin from the previously provided rod, crimp one end of the pin, then secure the oleo strut to the malready oleo bracket on the framework.

That's it for this stage.

59 - Contains tailwheel leg parts, headrest, brake line and the tailfin leading edge.

60 - Contains an aluminium skin panel sheet, bulkhead sides and hinges.

Stage 59 - Contains tailwheel leg parts, headrest, brake line and the tailfin leading edge.

Remove any burrs from the castings, then drill 0.7mm holes into the brake line castings and 1mm holes into the tailwheel and support arms.

Apply double sides tape to the back of the headrest, then fix in place in the cockpit against bulkhead #5

Assemble the tailwheel fairing, leg and wheel as shown, then fit the control horn to secure the tailwheel shaft.

Glue the tailwheel support hinge into the notches of bulkhead 16.

Cut a 7mm and 14mm pins from the 1mm rod. Then secure the tale wheel assembly to the tail with the pins and also engaging the oleo piston
at the same time

Fit and glue the tailfin leading leading edge as shown.

Take the brake line, cut two 115mm lengths, then glue each onto the brake castings.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the brake lines.

Future stages:

60 - Contains an aluminium skin panel sheet, bulkhead sides and hinges.

61 - Contians the left tailplabe ribs and spars.

62 - Contains the cockpit floor, aluminium skin sheet and lever box.

63 - Contains elevator parts and jig formers.

Stage 60 - Contains an aluminium skin panel sheet, bulkhead sides and oleo hinges.

If you have otped to paint your model, carefully follow the skin panel painting information.
I have opted to leave the skin bare metal which will show off the detail of the rivet and panel lines, (the rivets and panel lines ofe each skin panel are not indented).

Use a modelling knife with a fresh blade and steel rule as a guide, to carefully cut out the initial panels of the left (port wing).
A few strokes of the knife blade rather than a single heavy will produce the best results.
The skin material is paper thin and very prone to damage.

Carefully remove any burrs from the cut egdes of the panels.

The insttructions advise to use paper-thin double sided tape to secure the skin panels to the wing frame, you may prefer to use glue, either way, be sure that panel placement is perfect, as the material will be damaged if you try to lift it once set.

Test fit, then secure each of the panels in turn as shown, adding the long strips between. Ensure that the panels are perfectly aligned and also align around the cut-out holes.
To prevent damage to the aileron, I opted to remove it until the wing panels have been added.

Take the cockpit section and bulkhead unfil strips.

Fit and glue the strips to infil the gap between the bulkheads as shown, gently bend them to conform with the profile shape so that each meets centrally at the top and bottom.

Take the left wing frame, release the undercarriage securing screw, to allow the wheel strut to drop down.

Take a pair of the oleo hinges, fit each as shown onto the strut, by clipping them onto the pins each side of the strut.

Repeat to fit the oleo hinges onto the wheel strut of the opposite wing.


That's it for this stage, carefully stiore the remaining skin parts.

61 - Contains the left tailplane ribs and spars.

62 - Contains the cockpit floor panel, aluminium skin panel sheet and a lever box.

63 - Contains the left elevator parts and jig formers.

Stage 61 - Contains the left tailplane ribs and spars.

If you are painting your model, paint the ribs and spars aotake blue.

Remove each of the ribs from the soues, ensuring that you place a number next to each as you go.

Slide rib #1 onto the aft spar and fit the forward spare into the slot of rib #1

Then fit each rib in turn aling the spars, taking note of where they slot into the forward spar.

Fit the rib heads along the forward spar as shown, then apply glue into the contact points between the leading edge ribs and the forward spar to secure them in place.

Retrieve the front engine ring and engine.

Identify the fit points around the ring and the corresponding engine rockers. When you have the correct fit, apply glue into the contact points betwen the ring and rockers to set the ring in place.

This completes this stage.

62 - Contains the cockpit floor, aluminium skin sheet and lever box.

63 - Contains elevator parts and jigs

64 - Contains aluminium skin sheet, gunsight mounting and cables.

Stage 62 - Contains the cockpit floor, aluminium skin sheet and lever box.

Remove the areas of flash and burrs from the lever box and air intake control castings.

Dril a 1mm hole 2mm deep into the lever box as indicated. Then glue the control ontol the hole drilled in the lever casting and orientate as shown.

Paint the leer box and control as shown inthe isntructions, and if you are paintuing your model, also paint the cockpit floor.

Glue the lever box onto the inside surface of the cockpit floor panel.


A-F for the upper side of the right wing are added at this stage. I will not be skining the right-hand side of my build, and will therefore not be adding these skin sections.


That's it for this stage, carefully store the cockpit floor and skin sheet.

Future stages:

63 - Contains elevator parts and jigs.

64 - Contains aluminium skin sheet, gunsight mounting and cables.

Stage 63 - Contains parts to form the left elevator and type A, B & C skin jigs.

Take the skin sheet from stage 58 and identify the two elevator pieces to be removed. Cut them out as with previous skin pieces, marking them as A and B.

Check the castings for burrs and remove any you find, along with the tab at the end of the leading edge tip.

If you are painting your model, proceed with painting the parts as noted in the instructions.

Assembling the elevator.

Remove rib No. 1 from the sprue. Slide the wider end of the spar into the notch at the front of rib No. 1, with the curved part of the rib facing inwards, and glue into place. Then glue rib No. 2 in place in the notch next to rib No. 1. Then glue rib No. 3 in place in the next notch; there will be a slight gap on the side nearest rib No. 2. Then glue the remaining four ribs in place along the elevator spar.

Now glue the trailing edge in place, engaging it with the ribs and the leading edge.

Slot the trim tab into place between ribs Nos. 1 and 3, so that the projections at the top and bottom fit into the holes in the ribs.

Glue a plate length to cover ribs Nos. 1-3, with the shorter end fitting in the curved part of rib No. 1 and the longer end fitting over rib No. 3. Be careful not to get any glue on the trim tab. Repeat this process to glue the second plate length onto the other side of the elevator.

Carefully remove each of the hinges from the fret and file any burrs. Fit hinges A and B just below rib No. 2 and rib No. 4. Apply a small amount of glue to secure. Then fit hinge C in place between rib No. 7 and the end of the elevator, with the projection on the hinge facing away from you. Then apply glue to set the hinge in place.

Fit one of the leading edge halves in place, aligning the notches with the hinges and the edge with that of the spar (inset). Glue into place and then repeat for the other side, gluing the second half in place.

Peel back half of the backing paper of skin piece B and fix the piece in place, as shown, aligning the notches with the hinges. Peel off the remaining backing and fix the rest of the piece down. The skin may overlap the edges; if it does, remove any from the sides but not the leading edge. Fold the loose skin around the leading edge. As the area above hinge C becomes very narrow, you will need to taper the end of the skin to fit.

Cut through the skin along the edge of the trim tab to remove the skin covering the tab. The rough dimensions are shown in the instructions, but you may want to hold the elevator up to the light to mark a more precise area.

Repeat for the other side of the elevator and skin piece A. Then apply glue to the seam along the leading edge to secure the pieces in place.

Fitting the left elevator onto the left tailplane

Slide ribs Nos. 2, 4 and 8 of the tailplane into the hinges of the elevator. Then slide one of the rivet pins into the holes of hinge A and rib No. 2. You may need to taper the narrow end first. Crush the rivet to fix the hinge and the rib together securely. Repeat this process for the remaining two hinges.

Locate the notches at the edge of the tailplane. Glue the curved tip leading edge piece in place on these two points.

This completes this Stage. Carefully store the left tailplane assembly and the jigs for later use.
