To my mind, the purists of you should not be building a kit but researching the vessel yourselves and doing everything accurately. A kit being a kit has to cover all skills so give D'agostini a break and go with the flow. I'm sure they're open to suggestions for improvement and they could probably be incorporated in the build but it would almost certainly mean extra issues and cost. I for one will suck it and see as Tiswas said and if the build isn't up to the mark I won't subscribe to any other D'Agostini builds. Thats it in a nutshell, they will do their best to accommodate us in the hope we all come back for the next project. Well said!!! Ship Builds on the go

I'm a subscriber and don't expect to be treated an different than someone who gets their mag from the newsagents....after all we all pay the same cost of the mag...so apart from the freebies that subscribers got....i think or hope....that everything from here on in.....is available to everyone......even the mentioned "extra issues"..I'm not a fan of cricket ....but i do like to see a level playing field....imho

Old sod returning modeller, last project 30 years ago made a Napoleonic (54mm figures)Rose figures chess set.
Just a word have read forums with intrest on subjects such as copper hull or no copper hull, 100 cannons or not 100 cannons, figures or not figures.
I am certainly enjoying building the Victory although some components (pre-drilled) the bore is too tight for the copper bar, and the canonade well there are more holes in my fingers from the drill than in the copper/brass mounting, superglue to the rescue,(by way typing with toes.
Tip for those intracate small jobs "a blob of Blu-Tac stick the Blu Tac to piece wood or mat press item onto it and hey presto allows you to keep the tricky bit still, also great for sticking in bits like cannons (stick barrell end into blu tac) whilst any painting dries, same with large anchor when doing binding. Bound to come in use for other bits.
Old sod.

I read the comments on the build of HMS Victory, and would like too mention that im a compulsive model maker and ive got 3 builds on the go right now, i would like too tell you that i have already built HMS victory before with a partwork and the detail on it is no where like what is on this one. Although the kit was finnish as far as the partwork was. It was far from finnished in detail. After seeing this one i decided too destroy the other one and put it down too experience. Cant wait too see this one finnished. Good luck too all.

hi all been reading all of your comments and as a new builder of wooden ships the build is only as good as the builder, if you want copper hull buy it if you want 100 guns where would you fit them?. This is surposed to be a detialed model for beginners and of all ages, and i'm thoroully enjoying the experiance and so is everone that seen what i have acomplished. Please can we all get back to the pleasure of building a historic ship and not get stuck into the economics of ship building. Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24. Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.

HMM - I am bemused by this thread and the moaning and complaining about whether or not we are going to get the coppering. As most of the people on this forum are English or English speaking, I am even more bemused. I have just read the "build it your way" pages in issue 15 and no where does it state that we are getting the copper supplied, yes I read it twice, it mentions how we can paint it in various ways, BUY yes it does say buy, it also mentions 3 different types of copper you can buy to finish this build. Now, this is plain English, why then has there been such a furore about what is and is not supplied. I have stopped reading this forum recently because I am sick to death of reading nothing but ladying and moaning about this build and how crap it is and how bad the detail is - blah blah blah blah. I am enjoying this build, I am following the tips on Tomicks official build - but as for the rest of it, I just dont give a damn about all the whinging anymore. Thanks for your guidance Tomick - the rest well I wish there was a delete button. Current build : The Victory Pending builds : none - yet Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits. on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

I think I'm pretty certain in saying there has only been one previous partwork Victory, which was from Del Prado a good 8-10yrs ago and was of there own design/manufacture. Here's a built one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H-...&hash=item3f05815b97

I'm sorry you have obviously not read the plain English replies that DeAg gave to early enquiries regarding the coppering, back in March/April I'm glad you are enjoying the build but I do object to your intemperate use of language. When I initiated this thread it was to get a simple answer from Admin to seek clarification regarding the changes between what was originally said and what was eventually printed in issue 15. I neither whined nor whinged, simply asked for an adult response. You are entitled to your opinion and good luck with your build, others are entitled to hold different opinions and there is no need for your comment about 'Delete' buttons! Mike T

this one on ebay remindes me of a program on tv where you sell at a auction the auctioneer speaking to the seller ask the man how much he paid for his model he said £650,the auctioneer said because it was a kit model and plenty of them it was only worth £150 i wonder what this one will go for

I've got the del prado one (unfinished) but all parts. I stopped when I screwed up the first planking. When I've done this one(De Ag)I might go back and do the Del Prado. As regards to comments regarding the build being classed as bi**ing and whinging, well, everyone is entitled to voice his concerns in an open forum. If you don't like it, then don't read it. Simple as. Jimmy L.
current builds : Lancaster 1/32 (Hachette) Revell USS Kearsarge Titanic Lifeboat
I started off with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
