Well here we go. BigGrin BigGrin

Will post this build as a weekly issue set up. May be able to get more/or less in a week depending on how much work there is to be done and other commitments.

So here we go with issue number one:

THE PARTS. Pic 1

The propeller and the two bombs are not used at this point, (to be shown later).

The wooden fret and the plastic stringers are all used to construct the nose cone of this Lancaster.

All parts removed from the wooden frets will need sanding smooth at the points where a piece is cut from the fret.

First job was to number the parts before removal from the fret, then glue the two web braces to the rear former of the nose section.Pic 2

Next attached the front turret base former.Pic 3

A small vertical former was then fitted to the back plate.Pic 4

The next former to be fitted needed some careful positioning as it had to be rotated into it`s final position.Pic 5-6

Another vertical former was then added to the top of the nose construction.Pic 7

The next former was open ended and had to be carefully positioned so as not to snap it.Pic 8

At the open end of the last former, two more vertical formers are now added for support.Pic 9

Another open ended former added.Pic 10

A small vertical former plus last open ended former are now added.Pic 11

Two vertical side braces are now fitted, followed by a very small vertical former and the final nose cone ring.Pic 12

That`s the plywood construction of the nose cone done for now.

Starting from the top of the nose section, the plastic stringers are added.Pic 13

Top section of stringers completed.Pic 14

Three stringers added to each side and the lower section stringers fitted and the nose cone is finished for this issue.Pic 15

So that`s the end of issue one and this is where I`m at.Pic 16

So, issue one complete.

"ISSUE 2 COMING SOON"

A lovely start Del! Cool

I really enjoy watching this type of construction take shape, the way complex curves are formed from essentially flat bits and bobs still seems like magic, even now!
Watching with great interest!

Nice start on a mammoth project. Is this a complete set you picked up or did you collect it from when it was issued?

Looks like you have the knack of working with those plastic ribs which I know did cause some problems for some builders.

Hope the rest of your build goes well.
Happy Modelling

Hi Nem, BigGrin

I`m into the build of the Deag spitfire, Wifey bought me an "Airfix" 1:24 Hurricane for part of my Chrissy present and I have this Lancaster build. Three out of your favourite four can`t be bad.

As for this build, I`m finding it very enjoyable at the moment, but only time will tell. I won`t be put off the build but you never know what may crop up in a build that may need sorting and can put a halt to proceedings.

Thanks for looking in.

Hi Robin, BigGrin

The way these kits are designed still baffles me a bit, but if it all comes together as well as issue one, I`ll be a very happy bunny.

Hi Tony, BigGrin

Yep a mammoth project in deed and I picked it up as a complete kit.

As for the plastic ribs, the copious amounts of super glue (Gel)and cocktail sticks seems to work for me. Just as well, as there are shed loads more to come. LOL LOL

Thanks for looking in and the comments.

Hi All, BigGrin

Firstly thanks to Alan for looking in Cool and now here comes issue two.

There`s not a large amount of work to do in this issue (constructing the left wing outer section), but, it does include the painting of one propeller and spinner that I will leave until another day. Reason being it`s not worth setting the airbrush up for such a small amount of painting.

So here`s the rest of issue two.

The parts: One plywood fret and a metal spinner.Pic 1

The important part of this construction is making sure the spar and wing ribs are set at the correct angle, bring in the miniature engineers squares.Pic 2

The rest of this part involves the addition of a further five ribs and the forward spar.Pic 3

When the next five ribs have been set at the correct angle to the rear spar and allowed to fully set, the front spar is added.
While this was allowed to fully set I gave the first prop and spinner a basic clean up.

This is the state of play at the end of issue two.Pic 4

So, what`s next in issue three?

Fit the rest of the ribs in this wing section.
Fit the aileron spar.
Fit the left wing outboard engine mount.
Fit plastic stringers to the main (upper) section of the wing.

A busy section of the build.

Happy Building
