Hi Del,
Thanks for posting issue 2 it's very similar to the way we are building the spitfire, how are the wing covered on this model I would be very interested to know.
All the best
Trev

Hi Trev, BigGrin

Firstly, thanks for looking in. Cool

Now, in respect of the spitfire build. Blink Blink

All you see in issue 2 is the outboard section of the left wing. That scares me to death because this beast has approx. 38 inch wingspan with two full metal cast engines hanging on each wing.

Crying Crying Crying Crying

I`m seriously hoping that the aluminium coating (as per the Spit)will add some much needed strength to hold the weight.

How much covering I put on this one is still up for thought, as the interior detail is stunning. Some of that comes along as soon as issue 4.

Glad you are liking this one, next update not far off.

Hi Jase, BigGrin

You`re not wrong about the size.

Just for an example the prop from the centre hole to the tip of a blade measures 60mm.

Hi All, BigGrin

Well, been a while since last update as it`s the heavy work load period of my work roster.

So here we go with issue 3, but before I say more one thing to explain is that I won`t always be building in the specific order of the issues.

Reason for this is that, things like the four engines are built in very different issues, so to save time they will all be built at the same time and I will therefore only have to bore you with the build of one.

LOL Flapper LOL Flapper LOL

So issue 3:

The work to be done here includes:

Fitting more ribs to the left outer wing section.

Fitting the aileron spar.

Fitting the wing end rib. (Wing tip to be added soon)

Fitting the engine bulkhead plate for the left outer engine.

Fitting the stringers to the wing upper (main)section - (to be done later)

Here`s the parts supplied.Pic 1

So the rest of the ribs are fitted making sure they sit at a 90 degree angle.

The next picture includes the aileron spar to be fitted next.Pic 2

So, with the ribs set in their place and the aileron spar fitted, the final rib is fitted to the left outer wing.Pic 3

The final part of this issue (that I`ve completed) is fitting the engine bulkhead.(Picture taken with wing inverted).

Three parts, make sure to check the orientation of all three if you build this one.Pic 4

So that was a nice steady part of the build. Issue 4 to come soon.

Here just for Gandale:Blink

This includes the build of the cabin section and the detailed pilots seat.

That`s it for know!!!!

Hi Derek,
Thanks for posting, you have a very clean build there Derek look's a very special air frame to build, and I can see you have that extra touch which makes all the difference to our builds. This is going to be a superb build with many hours work can't wait for issue 4.

Your pressing on at a cracking pace but great to see the quality of your build looks top notch.

I am sure none of us would be board but it makes great sense to do all 4engines at the same time so as to get a consistent finish across all of them.

Hope the rest of your build goes well.

Happy Modelling

Hi Trev, BigGrin

Thanks for looking in. Cool

The plastic stringers can be a bit of a pain, but I think I`ve got a way of getting them to work without too much grief. Laugh

Issue 4 not far off, just in a heavy spell at work at the moment.

Hi Tony,BigGrin

Work commitments keep me very busy, but every so often I get a block of 5-6 days off shift so get stuck into some serious build time. Then it slows down when like the last three days I`ve worked 42 hours.

Thanks for looking in.

Hi All, BigGrin

Issue 4 starts the building of the crew cabin area.
(Just the start of the basic framework, contd. in issue 5)

and

Main construction of the pilots seat.
(Not painted for a while)

Issue 4 parts:

The cabin basics, more stringers and the pilots seat.Pic 1

The build:

Firstly, the ribs in this section are delicate in there own right, but as this part of the build progresses it all strengthens up.

Knowing what I know now, I would have put this together in a different order, to help accommodate the parts to come. That said it`s not impossible to do in the order of the instruction, just more fiddly.

With 5 ribs fitted in the order stated, this is the result.Pic 2

If you look closely at the above pic you will notice that the ribs don`t look parallel to each other.
Each rib was set at 90 degrees to the base and as stated they are flimsy, so until more parts are added they don`t straighten up.

I will describe in issue 5 the method I will use to perfect this part of the build.

After the first 5 ribs are set in place, the sixth and far end rib is fitted.Pic 3

Well that`s all I can manage tonight, as off to work in 7 hours and need some sleep. Blink Blink

Hope to, (but no promises), show the pilots seat tomorrow.

HappyBuilding
