USS Enterprise CVA(N)/CVN-65
by Dave McKay

This comprehensive book is considered to be the 'bible' for all Big E fans. It covers the USS Enterprise complete history from concept to inactivation with over 688 pages and 706 predominantly coloured photos with some black and white historical images.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN-65), "Big E" was an icon of her time. During her 51 years of service in the United States Navy she lived up to her name and achieved many first and only accolades. Big described not only her physical size but also alluded to her spirit and stature in the eyes of the navy, US citizens, and countless admirers from around the globe.

This is great news - I am definitely going to buy this. I have got the Hayne Manual on the HMS Victory and I really enjoy reading it and I know it will be great for reference.

For anyone that owns a Caldercraft HMS Sherbourne or who may have been contemplating buying one then this book is highly recommended.

“Super Detailing the Cutter Sherbourne” by George Bandurek.

A really great read with some brilliant hints and tips. George even makes his own canon barrels from paper can you believe, and they look amazing.

It’s a really good book for beginners in ship building as it covers all areas in very easy to understand, none technical text and pictures.

THE ART OF DHOW-BUILDING IN KUWAIT

Author: Dr Ya'qub Yusuf al-Hijji

Publisher: Arabian Publishing (2001)

ISBN: 1 900404 28 1

This book describes in detail how Kuwaiti shipwrights built their vessels, in particular the distinctive Kuwaiti boum (Arabic word meaning the owl).

It is illustrated with drawings, colour pictures and old black-and-white images.

Chapters:

1) A historical summary

2) Kuwaiti dhow types

3) Dhow-building tools

4) Dhow-building timber

5) Building a deep-sea boum

6) Preparing masts and yards

7) Preparing dhow sails

8) Launching a new dhow

9) Dhow maintenance and repairs

10) Famous dhow-builders of Kuwait

11) renowned Kuwaiti dhows.

In my opinion, the best book on the subject.

Rare. Pay attention to the price! I paid mine 80 € a couple of years ago.

Anyone know any good books about the Surprise that I could pick up?

Another question would the book about Rigging Period Ship Models by Lennarth Petersson be a good book to pick up for the rigging on the Surprise as well or is there something better?

Thanks

I am not aware of a book dedicated to modelling HMS surprise. but it is a popular subject and there is a lot of resource and reference material from other model builders on the net and youtube. I would suggest building your own reference library.

Any good general wooden ship model reference book could be used
