Hi All, It`s time for more Oooooooh`s Nem, . The Merlin`s get more detailing: As before I`ll only show one engine,(have dragged parts from later issues to continue with this part of the build). First parts are the oil control valve and the starter motor.Pic 1 The next addition are the coolant rails.Pic 2 The next parts build a combined unit which includes: A "V" block The constant speed governor and the vacuum pump (Pics 3-5 in that order) These next parts are a bit of a "fiddly job", the HT wire harness sleeves.(One each side)Pics 6-7 Well that`s the engine in question completed up to part 6. Now the next parts from issue 15 are added. These include: 12 exhaust pipes (6 each side)Pic 8-9 Then, engine mounted oil tank.(Two retainer straps painted black)Pic 10 Here`s a view of the engine at it`s present stage.Pic 11 So, where I`m at: Left outer wing still getting stringers added, then when done can add the wing tip (issue 7) Pilots control levers to be made and added to the cabin area (when painted) issue 8. Issue 9 (centre wing fuselage section) completed, but not posted yet as the order of issue 10 work needs some serious adjustment, to make my life easier. Days off work next week are Thursday to Saturday (inc), so will have some serious time to commit to the build. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Thought you`d like the detail Nem and as for panelling, I will not be doing a full cover job. That said, still to decide how much to cover and the max will be 50/50. Thanks Tony for looking in and the comments, most appreciated. Been good doing all the engines at the same time, as it gives consistency in the finish of all four engines. I`ve also sorted out the best order for the next sections of this build, so next update as soon as poss. Off to bed as I`ve got a super early start for work in the morning. Nice job on the engines Derek
If I can offer any advice it would be to lightly dry brush the black parts with a light gunmetal colour and that will bring out all of that lovely detail but it only needs to be a very light dusting nothing more? Hope that helps?

Kev Hi Kev, Thanks for looking in and "Yes", I`m always open to advise. I can always try it on one engine and if it don`t work re-paint it black. I`m ready to try anything new as an addition to my skill set. Cheers Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Regards Trev Hi Trev, Thanks as always for looking in and the comments. Will be a small gap in progress reports as juggling bits around to save overall build time. As you will know, when you have a complete kit you can change build order to your advantage and save time. Three days off work later in the week, so good building time coming up. Hi All, Firstly, thanks to Kev for the improvements idea on the engines. Will give it a try on one and see how it goes. I`m always open to constructive ideas, so feel free to add anything you think may help improve the end result. So here`s the next update. This is where I will take my first big step away from the official build order. The reason will become apparent in due course, when you see what you have to get around. So, issue 9 for starters: A very basic part of this build and works around the same principles as the cockpit stage, where rib sections are put over the floor section and then turned into their relevant positions.(5 in total) All of the rib sections must be set at 90 degrees to the floor base. When that's all set, there are two rigid stringers to be fitted and I used the same method of lining these up as I did with the cockpit area. (The marked piece of paper method). It is suggested that you mark the floor section with an arrow, before removing it from the fret.(Looks symmetrical to me, but go with it to be safe). Remove the floor section from the fret and the first rib. Clean off any rough/high spots and fix as shown.Pic 1 Follow this with the other four ribs by the same method. The instructions for the two rigid stringers, tell you to leave 15mm over each end. Mine were not long enough for that, but as long as they extend past both ends of the floor section , then there is nothing to worry about. Five ribs and two stringers in place this is where you are.Pic 2 Issue 9 continues with the painting of the seats for the Pilot, Navigator and Engineer. This I will leave till a later date when more bits need painting. So, onto issue 10: The parts.Pic 3 The main central wing spar is removed from the fret and cleaned up for rough and high spots. It is then fitted to the front face of the section made in issue 9.Pic 4 The rigid spar on the left of this pic is in place but has been cleverly hidden by the camera angle. . At this point the instructions tell you to start fitting the wing ribs, but I thankfully looked forward in the instructions and realised that fitting five stringers either side of the fuselage section would be a lot easier if done first. You`ll see why in a later pic, but here`s the stringers fitted, one side in this pic but did fit to both sides.Pic 5 So, with the stringers fitted, you have to fit six wing formers. Here`s a pic of just two fitted. You will now see why I fitted the stringers first. (They are darn close).Pic 6 Those wing ribs have to be set at 90 degrees to the front main spar. Having fitted five stringers to each side of the fuselage, I then set two wing ribs either side of the fuselage. (Not six to one side). Here`s the reason: You can glue and wait to set one rib at a time, or as I did, just set two either side and then remove the rear spar from the fret supplied in issue 14. I then glued the ribs supplied in issues 10 and 12 to make six each side and held them all in place with the rear wing spar (un-glued) until set like this.Pic 7 When the twelve ribs have set, remove the rear wing spar (issue 14)and you have twelve ribs set at the correct angle.Pic 8 Issues 11 and 12 fit the wing mounted fuel tanks (to be shown a bit later). Issue 13 fits more wing ribs to either side and these can be set in the correct position by using the rear spar from issue 14 as before. (Shown in next update). So that`s all for today. Next update ASAP. Happy Building. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

You are right in what you say, the parts are fragile. The good thing is that when all the parts come together, they do strengthen up and become very strong. Really appreciate you're input. Hi Nem, Yep, it`s a bit of a beast, approx. 38 inch wing span. If all goes well with the build and I find I can`t house it, ,then I will look for a museum to take it as a display item. Thanks for taking the time to look in. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

I am sure it is not, but it looks surprisingly delicate. but easily recognisable as what it is loving the build “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
