I agree Daran, setting everything square now will pay dividends later and will ultimately end up saving you time? Nice start mate, looking forward to more.

thats the trouble with railway models you need all the wheels perfect, you cant just stick a rock under a wheel and pretend you ment for it to stick in the air like on other vehicles - not that i have ever done that “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Managed to do some more to the loco tonight, installed the leaf spring suspension and tie rods. Fairly straight forward, but getting them all perfectly inline was good fun! Let these set 100% before I attempt anything else on the chassis.

Making good progress already Daran, how does it feel to finally get started on this after having it in your stash for so long - good I'll bet?

Thanks Andy, Kev and Del for looking in, yes Kev it is good to finally get a start on this, although going from 1:16 back to 1:35 is a shock!!!

Boiler supports added to the chassis, and the boiler made up. Lots of work to be done on the boiler, seams to sand, gaps to fill and also remove the cast on pipe work so I can replace it with brass and styrene rod. The photo etch kit comes with the clasps to do this upgrade. Dry fitting the boiler to the chassis gives you an idea of the scale of the loco, its a fair size!!

Hi Nem, That`s looking good and if that`s a "fair size" I`d hate to see "LARGE". Plus, there was you saying going from 1:16 to 1:35 was "a shock", well me thinks you would have seriously struggled doing this in 1:16. For sure you would have needed a railway siding. Looking forward to the detailing session. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi Derek and thanks for looking in. Theres me thinking getting back to something that fits my work space is great, and I decide to do a 6 foot dio!! It is a really nice kit, and my first ever loco, or anything to do with rails for that matter!! Just ordered some styrene rod and some brass rod soI can make pipes and valves.

Started on the front cross member and buffers. The kit parts were not to scale and were not very detailed so I found some replacements in turned brass. The buffers are a bit over the top for a static model as they are fully functional, but they do look the part!! First to remove the original mounts from the cross member. Then glue in place the new mounting plate. Buffers done and the complete cross member fitted to the chassis. They look so much better!!

I agree they do look much better Daran, a nice upgrade!!
Question: Do they supply replacement nuts and bolts to add to those brass plates - the buffers look fantastic but the new plates don't really look authentic with a few circular indents where the bolts should be? If not then you could always slice off the plastic ones from the original kit buffers and glue them onto the indents in the brass ones?
Nice work my friend.
