Hi Jase,

Not enough!!BigGrin BigGrin There were 20 pieces in this bit of chassis alone, and some needed squaring off and the axles in between needed seams sanding. The pain was getting the chassis frame to sit perfectly square, after reading up on the kit, if you dont spend time here, the wheels dont sit on the rails properly and the boiler wont fit. Time well spent!!LOL BigGrin

I agree Daran, setting everything square now will pay dividends later and will ultimately end up saving you time? Nice start mate, looking forward to more. Cool ThumpUp

thats the trouble with railway models you need all the wheels perfect, you cant just stick a rock under a wheel and pretend you ment for it to stick in the air like on other vehicles - not that i have ever done thatMellow

Managed to do some more to the loco tonight, installed the leaf spring suspension and tie rods. Fairly straight forward, but getting them all perfectly inline was good fun!Cursing LOL BigGrin Let these set 100% before I attempt anything else on the chassis.BigGrin

Boiler supports added to the chassis, and the boiler made up. Lots of work to be done on the boiler, seams to sand, gaps to fill and also remove the cast on pipe work so I can replace it with brass and styrene rod. The photo etch kit comes with the clasps to do this upgrade.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin Dry fitting the boiler to the chassis gives you an idea of the scale of the loco, its a fair size!!LOL BigGrin

Hi Nem, BigGrin

That`s looking good and if that`s a "fair size" I`d hate to see "LARGE".

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Plus, there was you saying going from 1:16 to 1:35 was "a shock", well me thinks you would have seriously struggled doing this in 1:16.

For sure you would have needed a railway siding.Huh

Looking forward to the detailing session.Cool

Started on the front cross member and buffers. The kit parts were not to scale and were not very detailed so I found some replacements in turned brass.BigGrin

The buffers are a bit over the top for a static model as they are fully functional, but they do look the part!!

First to remove the original mounts from the cross member.

Then glue in place the new mounting plate.

Buffers done and the complete cross member fitted to the chassis. They look so much better!!BigGrin BigGrin

I agree they do look much better Daran, a nice upgrade!! Cool ThumpUp

Question: Do they supply replacement nuts and bolts to add to those brass plates - the buffers look fantastic but the new plates don't really look authentic with a few circular indents where the bolts should be? If not then you could always slice off the plastic ones from the original kit buffers and glue them onto the indents in the brass ones?

Nice work my friend. ThumpUp
