July 2015 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain plus the 70th Anniversaries of VE and VJ days.
The Battle of Britain will be marked at many major events including the Royal International Air Tattoo.
Leading the commemorations will be the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which hopes to mount special formations at RIAT and other events around the country.
The Imperial War Museum Duxford will also hold a very special Battle of Britain Air Show in September.
VE Day Commemorations will also be marked at IWM Duxford, the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden plus the RAF’s only airshow of the year at RAF Cosford.
Memorial Day is held on one of the two Sundays closest to the first day of the Battle, which began on 10 July, 1940. In 2015 it will take place on the 12th of July and will mark the 75th anniversary.

It's difficult to establish an exact figure of how many aircraft were shot down in the Battle of Britain, partly because both sides tended to exaggerate their successes and downplay their losses. However, it's estimated that between 10 July and the end of October 1940, the RAF lost around 1,023 aircraft whilst the Luftwaffe lost 1,887.
This topic is to act as a tribute and gather all news and related matters leading up to the anniversary.

That's a very interesting article Tom and very timely given that Airfix are due very shortly to release their long awaited (newly tooled) 1:72 kit of the BP Defiant and which has a test build in the current issue of 'Airfix Model World' (a great magazine by the way).
Interesting also to note that the BP Defiant was considered to be hindered in its' agility due to the large turret, and yet the article states that one crew managed to out manoeuvre the great Robert Stanford-Tuck in his Spitfire - not many people have achieved that I'll bet!! 
Think I'll try to get along to that museum in the summer as it's not too far from me down here in the South East.

The new Airfix kit looks like it may change all that Tom, as it's looking like the best 1:72 model kit of a Boulton Paul Defiant that's ever been released and the most accurate by all accounts? I can see a lot of Defiants being built and talked about when this one hits the market. I would prefer a 1:48 model though?!

The biggest gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes since the 1950s’ is beng planned for RAF Northolt this Summer.
To mark its centenary and the 75th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain, planners at the base in West End Road, Ruislip, want a fitting tribute and an event worthy of the double celebration.
Squadron Leader Richard Willis, in charge of heritage, said although planning is at an early stage and nothing was definite yet, the intent was clear, and September 6 has been pencilled in.
“It is part of RAF Northolt’s centenary celebrations. However, the date is also the 75th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain, and RAF Northolt is the last flying Battle Of Britain station,” he said. “The aim is for this to be the largest gathering of Spitfires and Hurricanes since the 1950s.
“Once arrangements are confirmed it will be publicised."
