Hello all
Well I'm new here! After years of not making models and focused on a new hobby-flight simulation which took the past 15 years of my life and incredible amounts of money, I've sold it and come full circle back to model making.
I'd always been looking for that something different in a model. Larger and more detail. I found the 1/12th Spitfire so here I am!
As a child growing up in the 70s I was inspired, from a very young age, by the RAF, my dad serving 22 years in the MT.
I constructed hundreds of Airfix kits, mainly RAF aircraft but the Spitfire has and always will be at the top of the list as I'm sure you will agree the best ever built.
I built the Airfix 1/24th scale a few times but due to moving quite a lot these got damaged so didn't take them with me, rather they ended up in the bin-tragic!
So without droning on too much I have one question for now-the displayed model is painted grey & green camouflage, would it be historically wrong if I painted this version brown and green?
Thanks for any advice
Regards
ALW

Hello ALW,
Firstly, a warm welcome to the forum, great to have you on board and especially as you love the Spitfire!!
In answer to your question, the camouflage colours would depend on what year of the war the Spitfire that you have is trying to portray? The RAF WWII Fighter camouflage was green and brown in the early years but as the war progressed it was changed to a green and grey system? What mark of Spitfire is it that you have as you don't mention it?
I note also that you say you have a 1:12 Spitfire?! Is that a typing error as I am not aware of one in that scale?
Welcome to the forum,
Kev

Firstly a nice intro, welcome to ModelSpace
There were lots of brown/green camo Spit's, but with the markings provided with the 1/12 ModelSpace Spitfire kit, a brown/green camo would be historically inaccurate, as Standford Tuck's Spitfire had green/grey camo.

Ooops - my mistake ALW!! I didn't realise that you were referring to the DeAgostini Spitfire which is indeed 1:12, I thought you were talking about a plastic kit!!
It's what Tom says!!

Thank you one and all for the warm welcome. Nice to feel part of it!
I'm sure very soon I will be asking lots more questions. And a good idea to keep a diary-I will. I neglected to do this when I built my flight simulator which is a real pity but as they say "live and learn".
