Hi All i have just purchased a part way built Hachette 1:250 Titanic. I am planning on stripping it down and starting again as the keel is not very straight and id like to make it true. I have managed to cut the decks off, however the keel and frames are very securely PVA'd on. I have heard of steaming these parts to loosen the glue but have never attempted it before. Can anyone give me some hints and tips as to how to go about it? Thanks On the Go

Hi '5972, I used to know a "Chippy" in the R.N. who used vinegar after he soaked the joints (either steamed or just water)......It always seemed to work well for him and may be worth a try.................Tony

As just mentioned above,Ive always found if you just pour boiling water onto the joint and let it soak into the joint for a minute or two,the joint just pulls apart easily. Jon

Soak the joint in hot water the PVA should become malleable fairly quick. I have wrapped a hot water soaked cloth around a joint before now and that worked ok. Personally I wouldn't use boiling water, you need to save the frames and keel and you will risk warping the parts by fast heating and cooling. Warm to hot water should do the trick  Steve

So having decided not to completely strip it down, I have added the 3 main side and bottom hull pieces. This has straightened out the keel somewhat, and the planking will further do this, I am ordering the etched Minibrass bulkhead replacements as I believe they will look much finer than the cardboard decals supplied. Once these arrive the build can really get underway. Until then, I will concentrate on getting the Hull planked and painted so the major part is done. Pics will be posted as i progress. On the Go

Hi all. Here is the first updates of my rebuild. The hull planking first layer has been completed. Next will be filling and sanding to give her a nice smooth finish before the second layer of planking goes on. More updates soon. On the Go

I believe you need to resize them to 640 x 480? Anything bigger and they will be shown as download links.

I have now done the first layer of filler on the hull. It looks Horrendous at the moment but once it is sanded down and has its first coat of primer, any holes will be redone and it will get there. Titanic5972 attached the following image(s): On the Go

Thanks Alan Having built 2 of these before, I know all the pitfalls and what needs to be modified now. I'm awaiting the arrival of the photo etch set before I can continue the superstructure so now seems the perfect time to get the hull completed, painted and varnished. On the Go
