Hi Everyone, Hope you're all well? Well Im just back from 2 weeks on the lovely island of Zakinthos. I have to go and buy a new camera today and then I am going to start the build proper. Issues 15 - 18 arrived while away and they came through the letterbox after all my worrying, never mind. So I have a bit of catching up to do, and a lot of photos to take! see you all later. Russ - Assuming that you have not made a start yet, perhaps you could share your thoughts on this. When I assembled the keel and dry fitted the ribs 16 to 26 they fitted perfectly, that is they were flush with the top and the bottom of the keel - however when offering rib 15 to the keel there was a problem in that when I showed it flush to the top of the keel there was a 2 mm gap at the bottom of the keel, conversely when the rib was flush with the bottom of the keel there was a short fall of 2mm at the top of the keel. Issue 15 page 9 shows what I mean. My question is this. Is it better to have the ribs flush with the top - or the bottom of the keel. I appreciate that 2mm does not seem much, but on a precision build it could have a detrimental on the outcome of the model

i would like some advise on that as well. not glued anything together as yet cause of stress about rib 15 and its flaws. i dont know what weapons will be used in ww3 but ww4 will be sticks and stones.

With regard to rib 15 I fitted it flush with the bottom of the false keel, then when fitting the deck made it level with the top of the keel section by gluing some packing strips in place. Another way would be to fit flush with the top and apply packing strips to the shaped rib prior to planking and reshaping. First option much easier. Hope this helps CMB

Oh dear! Just looked at my glued together hull and I have the same problem - 2mm gap at the bottom of rib 15 and about 1mm at the bottom of rib 16. Never even noticed this until you guys mentioned it. Guess I will have to add planking to "fill" out this area. Really thought things were going well

Hi, I have already started to glue up!!!! CMB answered the question well, thats what I would do, so will take some photos later and get them on my build page! Russ - Did you in fact go flush with the deck or did you go flush with the lower keel? I am of a mind to go flush with the lower keel, but by so doing, will this not create problems with the decks - particularly with the attachments of the deck beams?

Russ - have been looking at your build diary, I must say I'm quite interested in your choice of annegre strips for the launch. Have never used this wood before and was wondering if you could tell me a bit about it; Is it generally a light or dark wood? and how does it come up when oiled? I know there are pictures of your launch, and I had a look on cornwall models, but just wanted to check as they can vary from the pictures in my experience!
Thanks a lot mate, Tom
