While at Yeovilton I picked up this Titanic kit, I was looking at the Acadamy centenary edition and also the Revell centenary edition. As I had just paid for this years summer holiday to Turkey I went with this kit being the cheapest at only £30.

I have not been able to find too much about this kit apart from in 1999 when the kit was issued it was the best and most accurate kit on the market. How it stands up to the competition now I do not know, perhaps someone else may have an idea?

Lets kick off with the box

Instructions look pretty good and well thought out

The hull is a one piece affair, with some nice molded on details

4 White sprues, detail is very nice one them, hardly any flash present with the exeption of the pastic railings and ratlines which contain quite a lot of flash, not an issue as I will be ussing the supplied photo etch

Another Sprue with some side walls

4 Deck parts with nicely molded planking

Clear parts, stand parts, monofillament, various other thread and anchor chain

Nice large stand and supplied photo etch

Overall this is a really nice looking kit and looks like it will build into a fantastic replica of the ill fated Titanic. I am hoping that if I do a good job with it it will be allowed to be displayed in the living room as my finance does like the Titanic.

How accurate this actually is or how it now compates to the other kits I do not know, I would be very interested to hear any thoughts others would like to share regarding this.

Any opinions on other / better types of thread or wire to use would also be greatly appreciated

Its simply the best and most accurate platic kit of Titanic that there is!

This site has lots of info about it and there are numerous PE sets available for it, including deck furniture..

This site is a Titanic goldmine too..

Good luck with the build, which if its anything like your Yamato build, should look stunning Cool

Thanks for those links Mr T and I really need to learn to start using the search feature first Blushing

I was intending not to buy any more PE for it but now I'm starting to change my mind so will have a look at what there is and perhaps buy in parts over several months.

Hello Dave,

I agree with Tom, the Minicraft kit has been held for some time as the best plastic kit available and it seems that you got it for a great price - well done?

You may find the book in the photo below very useful, which owning a copy myself, I can tell you that it if it isn't the best book on the subject, it'll be very hard to beat?! Still available and reasonably priced.

Hope that helps,

Kev Smile

Hi Dave, BigGrin

Stunning etch parts there. Cool

"WARNING - WARNING"

Watch out for the carpet "Gremlins" they feast on dropped bits of etch, never to be found again if they have their way.

Looking forward to this, especially for the detail.Drool
