Hi in issue 114 page 13 step 32 it states that the bowspirit distance from the bow platform should be 48mm. Now according to the picture the measurement is taken from the bottom of the platform. If this is right and I guess it is then why is mine 58mm? And if I shim it as in step 31 will this not make the measurement even greater? Now I could rectify this by shaving the top of the bottom end (the end that goes in the hole)and then shimming it as in step 31. But I do not want to go ahead with this until I have feed back Please help  jethro

Hi Jethro, can you please confirm you have fitted the foremast in place before fitting the bowspit, it is important the foremast is fitted first... It would also be helpful if you could post a few pics of the bowspit in place with the figurehead in situ if possible, pics from the side and from above if possible...

Hi Alan Model boats I can build putting photos on a computer I can not. I can tell you the foremast was fitted first so the bowspirit buts up against it. There is a lot of movement at the top end up and down and sideways about 10mm j Ill try to upload some pics

Hi Jethro and thanks for providing the pics, they actually show you are doing a great job with the build so keep it going, a pleasure to see...  .. I've now compared your build with mine, as yet like you, I have not fitted the bowspit, that comes in the next issue. However, placing the bowspit in position with the shims attached I find my measurements to be the same as yours.... at the point you have measured..  Your pic shows you are measuring from the wrong point, have attached a pic to show where your measurements should be from... . Also bear in mind every build will have slight variances in measurements but in this case I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. I too have a fair amount of movement on the bowspit when in place but you will find when you glue in place and attach the gammoning everything will tighten up nicely. Place your figurehead in position, when you add the bowspit you will be able to ensure you have enough clearance between the bowspit and the top of the figurehead bearing in mind the gammoning will pull the bowspit down some as you tighten it. I think you still need to shim up as instructed, everything to me looks just fine so continue as you are.... wow Alan thanks very much and thanks for the complement Ive got another problem now, since they did maintenance on this forum I cant get any pictures up is anyone else having the same trouble or am I doing something wrong again jeff

The maintenance work on the forum is ongoing and a lot of tasks are running behind the scenes this included the upload of photo's. This maintenance work is taking time but everything will catch up and photo's will be restored. Any pics you post now will show up when posted. Be patient and you will see everything will get back to normal, hopefully real soon. Regards Alan
