I was so enthralled with the MP4/23 and all the other builds that I saw on this forum that it got me going with this modelling hobby. My focus is Mclaren F1 cars (right now) so I just had to add this M23/1 as my third effort.BigGrin
I tried to get a car that was more or less as Denny Hulme drove on its debut at Kyalami in 1973.
The basis is a Tamiya 1/12 kit plus an airbox, sloped rear wing and decals from Macs models (very helpful crowd to deal with). I've added a lot of plumbing and wiring so really stretched myself but pleased with the result.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Hummmm.... What next? Cool

The airbox, nose assembly and cockpit cover are all removable so I might display the model occasionally with those taken off.

Malc, I am seriously impressed with this, she's an absolute stunner!!

The paint finish and the level of detail is exquisite. You must be so pleased and proud with what you've achieved and I think that having spoken to you often in the past and you saying how you've only gotten into modelling F1 a mere 2-3 years ago, I can only say that you learn fast and this standard is as good as any I've seen? Have a great big pat on the back from me mate!!

I think you should tackle the DeAg MP4/4 next?! Cool ThumpUp

Hi Malc, I've been following your build from the start & you've done a first rate job & it looks amazing. I was wondering did you build the 1:24 scale McLaren MP4-25 awhile ago? I'm about to start building it & I need some advice on what spray on undercoat to use & what silver finish spray to use. Any help is much appreciated. Well done on your build. Stu.

Hi Stu, the MP4/25 is a great little kit from Revell. I did build it while waiting for parts for the Deag MP4/23. It was my first attempt at an off the shelf kit. My build diary is deep in the archive, somewhere around mid 2013 I think.
I used tamiya paints on the body. TS83 metallic silver over Tamiya Gloss black ( TS 14 i think). That silver is something like three times the price of a normal TS can ( in SA anyway)and I see it's had some bad reviews. I found, however, that I could get a really good finish if I dusted a very light coat over the shiney black. I did 6 or 7 very fine coats. It's like the Alclad chrome which if you "over do it" then it just becomes dull. I'd recommend that you experiment on some plastic spoons or similar. The parts were first primed with Tamiya fine surface primer (white).
Good luck. Malc.
